If you do a lot of modeling as in predictive analysis and that kind of stuff, you will also get Brett's joke. Bluntly, most models are either based on data regression (based on the data that you have recorded and then trying to draw a line through it) or are phenomenological (where you try to understand the underlying phenomena and then try to model it). In the first type of model, as NASA found out, you never want to go outside your data range in using the model. In the second type of model, complicated phenomena (such as the weather) are incredibly complicated to model so you end up with lots of "adjustments" to make it work. Again, does not engender high confidence levels. So acknowledging all the environmental destruction that has gone on, it is still hard to have any confidence when global "warming" is blamed on rising man-generated CO2 levels based on modeling. I'm not saying it is not or that it is. I am saying that based on modeling, there can be no confidence that it is. Back to the joke....

If you want to look at the specifics of global warming, can do, but any time you hear "the debate is over, it is settled" that is a massive red flag all by itself, because it is one of the most fundamentally unscientific statement I can imagine. Particular when shouted by people who know nothing and have no training in science.

What you stated as FACT is the fact that these guys have an opinion on climate change. That isn't a fact about climate change, it is a fact about opinion. There is a slight difference. You need to get your FACTs straight.

My opinion is that there is climate change, and the historical data (such as it is) show that there always has been. Historically, climate change is a natural phenomena. Certain parties now claim that it is actually driven by mankind's generation of CO2 based on fossil fuel emissions. I claim that it is driven by Frank's ST-60 TEOSAWKI. ;D

Genetic mutations on a biblical scale, i.e., Chihuahua’s the size of horses, full time professional Accountants five times stronger than the strongest WWF wrestler, a squirrel rampaging through and destroying downtown Manhattan etc. I would only hope that you would study the scientific evidence; see sense and seriously consider an ST46 for the sake of mankind and its future.

The climate change people have adopted the alarmist method of getting what they want, as pioneered by Paul Erlich in the book "The Population Bomb". Absolutely every single thing predicted in this book - like 100's of millions to billions of people starving to death by the mid-70's, widespread revolutions and strife over food, and the eventual depopulation of the earth to a "sustainable" level - was absurdly wrong. This was predicted to be *mathematically certain*, proven to metaphysical certitude, and "unavoidable", with extensive math to "prove" it.

I am sure you recall all of that happening, right?

The fact that it was bullshit from start to finish didn't stop the guy from making lots of money, going on Johnny Carson, selling millions of copies of his book, and becoming a celebrity. Of course, the solution, when it was over, was a all-powerful world governement to manage our limited resources, and the aforementioned "breeding like rabbits", which is as clear as it could possibly get about how it was to make sure the "right" people were allowed to reproduce and the "wrong" people should be controlled. The Nazis just *whispered* about that level of racist/eugenics, this was a best-selling book about it, in the United States of America, in 1969!

So, the predictions and the "proven facts" from The Population Bomb were utterly worthless. The death rate due to starvation was cut in half over the time (1969 to 1977) he had predicted a billion people dying and widespread revolution, and continues to fall. The issue of starvation is a political issue - we can produce enough to feed the world 10 times over, but some benighted areas refuse or cannot permit this from being distributed, or are intentionally starving out political rivals. It has been noted that where there was a democracy and a free press, there has never been a case where widespread starvation occurred.

But the tactics of hysteria were very successful - and later adopted by the "environmental movement", basically a bunch of know-nothing hippies and bored housewives with absolutely no knowledge of any scientific topic, the less educated/more stupid you are, the more violently activist. This was adopted by the "global ice age" people, to the point that some fringe environmental groups were caught trying to develop a pathogen that killed only human beings, in order to save the planet from the human scourge.

Of course, this all works perfectly for leftists/globalists/socialists/communists, because if you can convince people that "world action" is required, it takes very little extra effort to convince them to adopt a world government to enforce these policies on all those teeming masses that don't know what is good for them.

Now you have the global warming crew, who have adopted the alarmist philosophy to the hilt for political purposes. Al Gore is a failed politician with absolutely no knowledge or training in any technical topic, but comes up with one dire prediction of doom after another, each one even more extreme, as he notes that no real action towards a world government is being taken. He flies around in his private jets, spewing CO2, Nitrogen Dioxide, etc, into the atmosphere to lecture people on how they need to make severe sacrifices to their lifestyles to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions, and has enlisted a legion of dimwitted celebrities (like Leonardo DiCaprio, who is by all acounts a moron even by Hollywood standards, which are very low to begin with) to do the same. And dimwitted politicians like AOC, for whom no hysterical prediction is too far-fetched. We are all dead in 12 years, I heard, better spend my retirement money quick. And now Rich Peabody.

The same failed predictions have happened over and over, and - just like Erlich continues to do today - they never admit to them. Now, they go "adjust" the models, until they can "retro-predict" what actually happened, but never examine why it failed, because they cannot admit it was failed at all. This is called refining their models to better predict the impending doom. They have been caught time and again "adjusting" the data itself, causing some of the actual scientists to say enough is enough, but the "true believers" to reject any contrary information as "denialism" and suggest that anyone that doesn't go along be put in jail. Quite the scientific method, there, huh?

Note that no matter what the dire crisis might be, the solution is to redistribute wealth from the rich countries to the poor, lower the average standard of living as a "sacrifice" to the cause, and to create a all-pervasive and powerful central government, run by elite masterminds, to exert iron-fisted control on the mass of the world population. None of that actually has any useful effect on reducing CO2 emissions, as a matter of fact, all of the "international agreements" imposes draconian restrictions on the Western world that was already working effectively on the issue of pollution in general, and leaves the "developing world" completely unaffected.

It's all a very transparent scam that has been adopted and vehemently defended because is serve the ends of totalitarianism.

Bottom line is that there is nothing more fundamentally unscientific than saying "the science is settled" an attempting to shout down any further discussion. But it *is* a very fundamental feature to leftist activism - scream at people, dismiss them while calling them names, and shout them down until you get your way.

Dave: I asked Frank. Here is his reply:

It is a 28% enlargement of the standard TEOSAWKI plans, all components scaled up to match same original proportions. Span of 54” scaled up to 69” (28% increase). Area is 822 square inches. I enlarged original plans at FEDEX. Credit for the standard TEOSAWKI goes to Clayton Smith who was very generous in sharing his design with me.

Instead of foam LE for the standard size, the LE is built up. Builder imagination and knowledge used here.

LG is 2 wheels mounted in wing instead of mounted in front of wing on fuselage as in profile stunters.

Don’t have weight. Covered in silkspan and 2 coats clear nitrate aircraft dope, one coat color.

Tail boom is removable to fit the monster in my car.

More rain, less rain, more hurricanes, less hurricanes, more or less polar cap ice, glaciers receding, glaciers advancing, sea level rise, or sea level fall - any change is proof, because the quantity of any of these 300 years ago was *exactly the right amount* and any deviation is global doom.

BTW, the current sea level is well over 100 meters *lower* than the average sea level over geological time (it went down enormously when continental crust (of which Antarctica is the core section) drifted over the south pole, causing a place for snow/ice to accumulate in massive quantites, and we entered series of cyclic ice ages when South America separated far enough from Antarctica to permit the formation of a cirumpolar current around the Southern ocean - reducing the ocean basin current gyres that took heat from the equator and carried to high latitudes. For example, Great Britain and most of Northern Europe is livable only because of the Gulf Stream, that takes heat from the tropics and carries it north. Imagine a huge dam from Cape Horn to Antarctica, stopping the flow around the south pole, and replace it with a current analogous to the Gulf Stream that circles around in the South Atlantic carrying heat from the tropics down the coast of South America to Antarctica, and takes cold water from Antarctica north along the west coast of Africa to the equator. This cools the tropic and heats the pole, ice melts, sea level rises immensely.

All without any human input, of course.

So, Frank, you are a simulation guy. If one of your junior engineers predicted some phenomenon, with error bars, and then you looked at ground truth and found him to miss, repeatedly, by far more than 3 sigma, what would you do? Go back to your desk and try again, kid, you got it wrong.

An interesting phenomenon at work in the Global Warming scam is that the more relevant experiece (like complex simulation work, or other highly technical knowledge in other areas), the less you are likely to buy into it. Bored housewives, newsreaders, the highly uneducated, Rich Peabody, they all "believe", and screech about how "x doesn't care about science" when they have absolutely no clue how science works. Here's a hint, if someone uses the word "believe" as in "believe in global warming", you know immediately that they don't know anything about science, because science doesn't use the word "believe" in that sense, it is anathema. You don't need to "believe" in science, or a scientific theory, you should be able to prove it and anyone espousing a theory should be able to prove it to you.
