Title: Glo plugs
Post by: john e. holliday on September 05, 2021, 07:25:43 PM
Seen on the bay MECOA K&B glo plugs at almost $19.00 each.  Went to the Mecoa site and sure enough the glo plugs have beeen price at almost $20.00 each.   Haven't checked any other sites for glo plugs as K&B 1L are my go to plug. D>K

Plugs have gotten scarce and expensive.  I'm told the price of one of the materials has gone through the roof.  Many of the regular suppliers are out and it's hard to tell if or when they will re-supply.  I've been buying what I can find and am going to experiment with some of the lower-priced plugs from China, made perhaps for RC cars and see what happens.....

So, this is definitely a bad time to seek advise on the best plug for a McCoy 35.  Maybe I should go ahead and use the obviously-too-short OS plugs I have here!

Blasphemy!
Easy solution; Don't buy anything from people who rip you off. K&B plugs haven't been "K&B plugs" for years and they aren't any better than Sig, Sonic, Or Thuderbolt from "MIke Goes Flying"

Link to Sig as Mike is Out right now

MECOA says Rhodium has reached record high of $29,800.00 per ounce.  Isn't there other elements that can be used? ??? D>K

Dennis: Have you ever wondered why virtually no one flies diesel?

There is a good reason.

Yes, rethink it, until the solution presents itself:

Most plugs are an alloy of Platinum and Rhodium and yes those elements have gone up in price a lot (Huge increase in usage for catalitic convertors). Unfortunately There are only a few major sources for those metals;  South Africa being by far the largest. So Nelson, AAA and Nadien high performance plugs are now $8.00 (Up from $5-5.50) and Thunderbolt and Sonic Tronics are up also from $6-7 tp $8-9. At $19.95 Mecoa can sit on them.

I have 10 piped engine plugs arriving from Sig this morning.  You are likely trying get the standard plug.  Not sure why the piped plug wouldn’t work in most anything.  I also haven’t found any reason not to buy the “cheap” plugs from China or Taiwan on EBay.  So far my limited use of them is OK and they can be had in N3 hot or N4 cool in the 4-6$ range with free shipping.  From what I read rhodium prices may never come down.  Even the scrappers are hoarding it.  Also keep a guard dog on your catalytic converters!
