Just wanted to acknowledge the efforts that Kevin and crew have been doing on uploading Windy Videos to YouTube.
Thanks Kevin!

Right on Great job Kevin y1

Yes, Kevin has been like a machine, but there is more to come!! Especially once I get off my duff and get some equipment together. We had a set back and a member of the team had to drop out, but I hope to begin the process of digitizing again really soon. I have 13 boxes, I think it is, of tapes to go through yet so there is much more to come.

As of yesterday, we have started the slow train to upload videos back up again. I still have possession of the bulk of Walt Brownell's tape collection, and I got myself set up to digitize and upload the videos to Kevin. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks!! I only have one digitizing set up at this time and since it takes almost as long to upload them to Kevin as it does to convert them, that may be all I'll be able to handle. I have one converting while another is uploading, and I set an initial goal of doing three tapes complete per day. This is all really new to me so will take me a while to finish learning and fine tune my routine. As I get used to this I may figure out a way to at least speed up the converting. At this time I have only one VCR that I know is working properly and that I can trust, and I'm working on a back up for that. I think I have around 500 tapes left to do! Right now I am working on the Miss Ashley II P-51 tape series and have I think 22 more of those to get through. I uploaded tape #235 to Kevin last night and have #236 uploading right now with #237 and #238 in the can waiting and #239 converting right now.
I am interested in hearing from anyone that would be interested in the tapes after I am finished with them. I have been trying to organize this effort to be done at little or no cost to anyone involved and so far that has been successful. I am not looking to sell the tapes, just find them a good home and maybe some one else may want to convert and archive them for their own use or load them on some other site. I figure the more sites they are on the better the chance that they will survive for people to find them in the future. Whether you like Windy's stuff or not, I think they should be preserved as there is a lot of neat stuff on there, a lot of the main characters from stunt through the years, and a lot of other history, not to mentions thousands of neat models to look at and get inspired by. I'm not really much of a video guy, and I probably have only watched a few of Windy's videos through the years, but I think they have a deserved spot in our history, and with all the recent talk about the hobby shrinking and dying, I think it is to our advantage to save as much of our heritage as possible. So, this isn't a right away need or anything, but if you are near the St. Louis area and would like to take possession of these as I get finished with each box ( I think I have 13 of them) drop me a message. I have approached the AMA about donating these to their library but that is a sketchy possibility. I'm close enough to Muncie to drive them there and eliminate any shipping, or maybe anyone passing through St. Louis on their way to NATS could drop them off?? That would still need to be worked out as time moves on. I just do not have the room to store them long term, and would like to stream line things enough to clear out of my local storage locker where I have them stored. I ain't getting any younger!! And it's time to stream line things.

Miss Ashley: 54oz airplane with a Ro Jett 76

A big thanks to you guys for doing this!
Because the amount of info is over-whelming, it would be nice to see an inventory list of Windy's tapes. Years ago when I needed to learn how to build lighter tails I bought 3 of his tapes from various airplanes that were focused on him building their horizontal stab and elevator. They were really worthwhile.
The only improvement I could recommend is if someone could cut out all of Windy's real-time balsa sanding. I wore out my thumb fast forwarding past that. Plus the tape ended up being half as long.... ;D
Thanks again for making the tapes available!

I would love to have some sort of list or bibliography of what is on each tape also. these that we are doing in the Miss Ashley series have all sorts of stuff on them. One I have on the machine right now is covering some of Windy's early four stroke developments. I like how the four strokes I have run the way I learned to run them, but seeing how he retrofitted the engine into an existing airplane and even repairing some crash damage from a rough landing is very helpful. The individual tapes for not have any kind of menu or listing of what's on them. I'm not sure how Windy numbered them the way he did, but so far all of the Miss Ashley tapes I have seen go through my hands have had some content on the building, finishing, trimming, and other stuff related to that airplane, including using it as a test bed for different types of tuned pipes. No exact science or method to it. doing any major editing would be a full time job!! With being newly retired I have the time to work this into my fay and still get other stuff done like shovel snow! I have over 500 tapes left yet to go and would like to get through them as fast as possible! So, if anyone has a list or bibliography of Windy's tapes and can provide a listing, please let us know.

Scott, alot of the earlier videos do have a detailed description in the comment section, but at the rate we converting, downloading, uploading and dealing with copyright claims it quickly became to much. Also clicking on the "playlist" may help you narrow down what your looking for. We managed to knock out over 500 Windy videos in 8 months though! Thanks to Paul Taylor who set the bar pretty high with all his videos. 😄

Just a heads up to anyone that may be interested in the 2004 World Championships that were held at Muncie. I have finished converting the last of 13 tapes and Kevin is working on the uploads so I think by the end of tomorrow they may all be up on the Walt Brownell Channel. I have been watching snippets of them as I have been loading them into the VCF player. It's nice seeing some familiar faces that are not with us any longer. Lots of airplane eye candy including Gilbert Beringer's twin Saito powered counter rotating Caudron racer! And Billy Werewage winning his last World Championship, I believe it was??
