Baton Rouge.
« on: March 25, 2016, 10:37:59 AM »
I went to the park this morning and found construction machinery ripping the concrete donut out. The circle is gone but the quarter circle could be usable. I saw the plans for the site and the quarter circle is to be finished all around like the old one. How soon is anyone's guess.
I may be wrong but I doubt it.
I wouldn't take her to a dog fight even if she had a chance to win.

Perry I found out about it this morning too! The one circle may work for our weekly flying, but not for contests. In reality with a circle so close to the water park activities it would be a matter of time according to Murphy's law before one of our tethered models went over the fence and hit someone or something.
Tommy Mansur, Andy Chase Sr., and I are contacting BREC personnel to get all the details. Hopefully we can try to get some park property set up for 2-3 well manicured and drained grass flying circles. We already know where a couple of park properties are located that would be ideal. In fact, we have talked to the supervisor of grounds and maintenance about this 2 years ago, when we had our site torn up by "big brother" two weeks before our October contest.
I respectfully ask our great local Baton Bi-Liners to refrain from making any further calls to any of the Park commission leaders for the time being. We need just a few voices to speak to the key park people and they are Tommy Mansur, Andy Chase Sr., and myself. Too many of us calling every "TOM, DICK, AND HARRY" IN BREC  would not help us with our cause. We will keep everyone informed promptly.
      Thanks,
               Doug

       Hello James,
I Should have explained more plainly, but I did not talk to Andy today. Tommy M. has talked to him. Andy, as I understand it has been in contact with one park official already. However, I will talk with Andy Chase in the morning and contact the supervisor of grounds and maintenance Monday morning. This supervisor  and his dad were  control line fliers with our group in years past. He does have influence in the system, but we also know and have good relations with several other people in high positions. Today Brent Rogillio, the CD for our Oct. contest, called the dept. that issues event permits and he was unaware that our field had been destroyed! (LEFT HAND NOT KNOWING WHAT THE RIGHT IS DOING). Not the first for this to happen with our park system.
We will thoroughly follow thru and hopefully have a solution shortly. We are not canceling the Oct. 15-16, 2016 contest. We will have it somewhere in the Baton Rouge area. BREC has hundreds and hundreds of acres of clear good level drained property that could easily become flying circles with no extra work needed to make them good surfaces for C/L flying.
If anyone wants to contact me I prefer through private e-mail- jd3patterson@gmail.com
        Thanks, Doug
