Title: GHQ part needed

  Gentlemen--- I am in need of the point assembly for the old GHQ engine.

  Any help out there?

Marvin,

Sorry, I can't help with parts but I have (Not so fond) memories of the old GHQs. That was my first engine back in the 1940s and I could not get enough power out of it to fly an airplane.

Recently, I was told that the GHQ would run in either direction but was basically setup to run clockwise (as seen from in front). That might explain the lack of power since I was running it counterclockwise.  HB~>  Do you know if that is correct??

Motorman is correct.  The points can rotate 360 deg., so you can set it to run in either direction.  A 3-port design, it will run exactly the same in either direction, since the port timing is the same.

I had a GHQ which actually did run, but not very well.  The original Loutrel engine was well made and worked in tether cars or boats (too heavy for an airplane).  The production was taken over by AHC and they only made 1 or 2 good ones for every 100 they sold.  If the parts accidentally fit, then it would run.

I understand that there's folks out there who rebuild them with decent fits & finish, and go flying.

I guess you can tell if one is rebuilt, by the fact that it'll actually run...

Once I was at the Sierra Eagles field near Rancho Cordova, CA, for an FAI FF contest. Some guy was there before the contest started, flying a Sal Taibi "Powerhouse" (a very large cabin model) with a GHQ and R/C. Bill Wisnewski had "rebuilt" it for him (probably for lotsa $$$) and it hauled that Powerhouse pretty much straight up. It's wonderous what money can accomplish...look to our goobermint for a shining example.  D>K Steve

  Thanks guys,.  I have gone to Woodies site and didn't see any GHQ point sets  listed.  But that doesn't mean that he don't make them.
  I am asking as a favor for a fellow modeler here in my area so I'll ask him how much he wished to spend.
  Thanks Floyd, I'll keep you in mind if he wishes to proceed further in restoring his GHQ.  The entire point mechanism is missing.
