Looking for something with more punch than an LA 46. Something about a 60 sized schnurrle ported engine that won't break the bank. Looking at the Evolution 60NX RC. It has a high timed exhaust and a boost port so what could happen, why does this make it bad for stunt?

Who said it did?  99% of what you hear about stunt engines "timing", "boost ports", and everything else is nonsense.

The answer is, no one knows how any particular engine will work without trying it with careful experimentation and extensive knowledge of what you are trying to accomplish in terms of the run, or by copying someone else's successful setup as a starting point. Define "success" for the latter very carefully.

Magnum XLS or ASP .52, ST G.51, and OS AX .46 or .55 would be other options. The ASP and OS are currently available, while the others are not. I'd call Randy Smith. D>K  Steve

Does Dubb Jett still make stunt engines? I looked on his site and they're all billed as high performance.

Yes, as far as I know, you can still get an engine identical to mine in a few weeks for a phone call and a "nominal fee".

I'm sure Dubb still makes the RO Jett 61 RE and it's a great running engine either on a pipe like Brett's or on a header muffler!  Not cheap!  But likely the best available today, unless you can find a good PA65.

If you're looking on the cheap, (uhhh well cheaper) the OS 55AX with a .170 diameter venturi  and a tongue muffler makes a very acceptable large engine.  Much more controllable power than any ST60 etc., and not difficult to handle!  13-4 APC Prop and around 9600 RPM on the ground gives a really good fast 4 stunt run.  It will fly any of the current "Big" airplanes with aplomb!  Also OS reliability and parts supply is a plus!

Also, Randy Smith does a Magnum.52 that will also fly any of the big airplanes and runs very, very well.  As a plus it's a beautiful engine and Randy's B&B Mods make it a Peach.  I don't remember how much mine cost but I think it is was reasonable!

I have two Enya .60's for sale in the classifieds for 75 bucks each. These are the older ringed, baffled piston versions, and they will most certainly have more punch that a LA.46. One even has a strap on muffler. Both are R/C version so just add your own venturi.

You mean the Enya 61 CXLS Pro ABC  @12 ounces?  Yeah I'd love to find one of those.

MM

I have one of the earlier Enya CXS Pro side exhaust engines that is ringed.  It is an excellent running engine, but was a real bear to break in and was very temperamental and wanted to run away at the drop of a hat until it did break in which took about 3-4 gallons of fuel through it before it settled down.  I ran it on the bench for about 1 gallon then put it in an airplane, where it began to express itself by running away.  After speaking with several "Enya Folks" they told me it simply wasn't broken in.  So back on the bench for another gallon+ of fuel and then back in the airplane.  Things were better but it was still finicky to needle setting or it would run away.  Finally after about another gallon of fuel in the airplane it calmed down and now gives very consistent runs and still exhibits  one thing it has done from the beginning.  It consistently starts on one flip, no matter what!  It has done that since the first run on the bench and continues to this day!
Absolutely the easiest starting engine I've ever had.  It's also not finicky about props or fuel etc. since it's been broken in and the compression seems to have actually increased with wear (or lack thereof).  I nearly gave up on it however trying to break the thing in.  I don't know if the ABC version exhibits any of these properties or not!  I've always used Enya #3 plugs in it!

One minor downside is that the mounting width and hole pattern doesn't seem to fit most other engines!

Jett....his own brand
Smith...his own brand and many others
Dixon...Mostly Stalker
Tower...OS
Shuttrman..Mostly Enya and the CL engines are usually low volumn and sell quickly

All have several versions of bigger stunt engines ranging from $150 to $499 or more

Hello. One of the cheapest new 60-61 engines is Brodaks Aviastar 61 which is only 11.9oz. This is a lot lighter and cheaper then the OS 55AX and the other cheap new engine still available the K&B61 from MECOA. I have bench run my Aviastar 61 but can't build models fast enough to say how they fly. Regards Gerald

I was recently looking at a nice OS 65 LA. I was considering buying it for a CL conversion.  From what I read searching through SH, your comment seems to be the general consensus. With pics and weights to back it up. In fact one guy was able to lighten his by 4oz!! That seems absurd that there's that much extra material. Randy Smith has some good options in that size range. I'll stick to that when I'm ready!
