Getting rid of all of your CL stuff?
« on: October 17, 2024, 09:52:15 AM »
        Hello All:

My friend and I have decided to rid ourselves of our lifetime collections of CL engines, kits etc.  we would like to see it go to people who may appreciate it for what is.  There is a vast number of Diesel, Stunt, Combat and Sport engines from the 50’s.  There are many Oliver Tigre Diesels, a ST .46 Aldridge tuned engine,7 HP.40
engines two with Brian Gardner p&c.  A Stalker .46, Cox Conquest, Fox CS and many quality engines.  No junk engines.  About fifteen cl kits and many ready to fly stunt planes.  Many Fox, ST, KB, McCoy etc. engines.

I think that here on Stunthanger is the best place as E Bay is out of the question.

We could go to Lebanon flea market in March but cl equipment is worthless there.  Perhaps the dust bin is the answer.

           Comments/Suggestions

If you were closer to Texas, I'd love to take some off your hands. I just have no way of getting a bunch of planes from Pennsylvania to Texas, easily.

Nobody has ever posted on SH that they have had a problem from posting their location in their bio, and I have been urging everyone to do so for a couple of decades. I looked up "Lebanon" and got OR, IN, PA and TN. If there was a model swap meet in Lebanon, OR, I might conspire to attend...maybe.

I think it'd be a real good idea to make it known what you'd like your heirs to do with your treasures, and would suggest selling items on SH or similar. Our club has two swap meets a year, but I don't go. Nobody wants to pay a fair price, as a general rule, and we have a few guys that are professional swap meet guys. I always subscribed to the theory "Gotta have spares" set forth by our founding father "Steve" Stevenson. "What a crock!" was his favorite saying.  D>K Steve

        Hello All:

I recently relocated to Carlisle Pa.  My friend is living in Hummelstown Pa.  We are the last two remaining members of  very active CL club.  We both enjoy flying but…. I have about 30 plus cl planes to fly so building is not in my future.  Due to health problems, walking and standing has become very difficult for me!  I will work on my problems over the Winter and perhaps by Spring I can fly solo via using a stooge.

I recently became interested in flying Diesels for a diversion.  I have planes to fly from ..09 .40 powered by Diesel engines.  MY flying Mate is also a Diesel nut so we can feed off each other.  The .09-.15 size planes appear to be more crash resistant than the larger ones. lol.

        Stay well,

        Frank

There is a Classified section in the "General control line discussion" of this site. That's where you can list what you have for sale and the price you would like to get. Kits can be expensive to ship but people are usually willing to pay the shipping cost to get a kit that is otherwise unavailable. So I recommend to take some time and post what you have for sale and see what the response is. I would be interested to know what stunt kits you have for sale, as well as good stunt engines from .45 - .60.

Another idea is to bring what you have to sell to Brodak's next contest.

I think this is the correct answer. ☝️

This last summer I gave ALL my c/l and building goodies to a great friend who distributed it among a few of his club guys who are mostly beginners, etc. in the hobby to use and enjoy.
Since I don't build or fly any more I just hated the thought of all those goodies laying around gathering dust n rust and not being useful.  It wasn't a matter of generosity on my part, but of seeing useless things turned into useFUL things. I can't stand to have stuff laying around not being used when someone else could benefit from it.

There's a lot of control line guys that show up at the Annual Lebanon Flea Market.  It is a great place to go to see your many control line buddies in the winter!  And there is always CL "stuff" for sale there.  The discipline that is needed is to not buy more stuff you don't need  :P.

One of our club members regularly "recycles" CL engines, kits, planes to the beginners and intermediates in our club.  We have people who come by, fly our trainers and want to fly again (the most recent a fellow who had flown at the Nationals as a kid but hadn't picked up a handle in 40 years!)  So, we equip them (no local hobby shop, so how do they get a set of lines or a handle or a plane?)  This is all at nominal cost (and often for free).  I had a Nobler ARF with Brodak 40 that I gave to one of our club members to fly and he has since passed it on to another club member.

Frankly, a lot of this stuff just isn't worth much because the market isn't there.  So, if you have lots of CL engines, planes, or kits you are going to be using, you have a great opportunity to practice generosity!

You can always bring them to Brodaks next June.  I'm sure they'll find a home with someone there.

Scott's right - I've handled about 18 downsizings and estates for CL people.  My normal M.O. is to drive up with my cargo trailer and load up everything (built planes, kits, engines, hardware, covering, paint, balsa wood, etc.) then sell it either locally or via a national outlet, like Stunthanger or an auction site.  In fact, I just completed a downsizing for a fellow in Hummelstown, PA.  I can load about forty built planes in one go.

The fellow who got the completed Nobler ARF flew really well last weekend.  That particular downsizing is in progress and going well.

Contact me via PM if you want me to make a trip to PA.

thanks,
