Tom Luciano and I drove down from my home in Stockertown, PA (think Easton/Allentown area...) yesterday, leaving at 4 AM. We logged a total of 470 miles round trip, and returned home around 10 PM. The ride was well worth it; the contest, the people, the weather, and the field conditions were perfect! Tom experienced a bit of bad luck in hitting a small burm on takeoff on his last flight, but fortunately just broke a prop (an Igor three blade... ouch!), and bent the gear slightly. He'll be back in the air quickly with his beautiful "Drop Nose" Crossfire.
I was honored to be asked to judge Old Time Stunt. I haven't judged that event for nearly 30 years! Hope I did okay... I had a blast flying against some very talented people in Expert and was very pleased to have won. That certainly wasn't a given with the flights being flown there by the others in the class.
My thanks go out to all those who worked to prepare the field so well and put on a great contest. They even fed us at lunch time... for free! And the food was terrific!
This is one contest I will not miss next year, and I encourage everyone to attend and experience some genuine Virginia hospitality. You won't ever meet nicer people than the NVCL group.
