On my trip to Champaign last week at there local hobby shop I spotted an older Midwest Products RC kit of the SUKHOI and figured this would make a great conversion project. The wing is a D tube fully Symmetrical airfoil with Dihedral. The Fusalage is just about all ply but I'll replace that. Date on the plans is 1992, almost all the balsa looks great and is packed in sealed plastic. This should keep me busy in the next "Building Season".

How do you plan to connect the flaps with a tapered trailing edge. I guess I am assuming you will have flaps. Any modifications in mind? It should look great.

Andrew: If this makes sense to you, the tapered part of the trailing edge that is inside the fusalage I will make straight. I will make more c/l style flaps and put the control horn legs into the flaps 90 degrees to the flaps leading edge. Only the leg of the horn gets bent.

I think I understand what you are doing a drawing might help. Give this a thought, after leaving the last post I got to thinking about the problem of a tapered trailing edge. I had an idea of taking two 4-40 DuBro ball links and mounting one above the bell crank and one below both sharing a common bolt through the bell crank. This way each flap would be driven by a seperate push rod but each receiving the exact same travel. In fact you actually could put three ball links on a common bolt and use the very top one for the elevator. I just started using ball links and I really like the way they work.

I have a design I have been playing with that also has a tapered trailing edge. Your solution is the most elegant I have come up with. simple but effective. Using two rods from the bellcrank will introduce assymetric motion on the flaps. This was illustrated somewhere but I cant remember where, memory says it was Al Rabe, but again, I am not sure. the geometry as the arm on the bellcrank moves lateraly drives one rod more than the other. With the straightened trailing edge inside the fuse, you avoid this problem. I plan on using lucky boxes in the flaps because there will still be some lateral displacement with regards to the flap movement. best of luck, it should make a cool looking plane.

I can't believe you guys have got ships like this and are keeping them under wraps. What other stuff have you got going on-a control line 40% TOC Extra? A control line Bob Violett turbine Big Cat?

The Kaos is an ARF converted to C/L. It's take apart with a ST 51.

For crying out loud Leester - how does it fly!!! You may be the only person to ever do a Control Line Kaos. What does a Kaos feel like!!! #^
