Fun R/C Conversion of Old Ares
« on: September 19, 2017, 07:24:29 PM »
About a year ago  Rich Martinez (Philly Fliers) and I came upon two very old scratch built Ares models . I bought both for $60, took one and gave the other Rich. I did a complete restoration of mine and put pics of it here on our forum. Rich started working on his a bit,but didn't get too deeply into it.
Years ago I loved building and flying the Top Flite R/C version of the Nobler. I built like four of them. So, I came up with the idea of converting Rich's Ares to R/C.....just for fun
I started working on it by removing all of the remaining silk and dope finish. Then I cut off one full panel from the inboard side. I actually ended up with equal length inboard/outboard panel. I then cut off the air foiled  fin and rudder. I removed the cool wheel pants as they would not work on our grass R/C site. I removed the bellcrank ,lead outs ,and wire push rod. Next I'll redo the engine beams that once held a Fox 35. I'm going to use a very strong OS32. I promise to post pics shortly as I move thru the project. Cheers, PhillySkip

Equal panels?  What's wrong with a constant right bank?  Most RC fields aren't that big anyway!
