Fun Flying day with my niece
« on: June 02, 2008, 06:31:59 PM »
Just thought I would share the nice day Saturday flying I had with my 7 yr old niece at my filed outside Paris, TN. She likes to fly, has a baby Clown, but saw my Smoothie in the shop and wanted to fly it. So, off to the field. Of course, I just couldn't quite yet let her go solo, but she was quickly getting the hang of it. Weather was perfect. Good because we got hit that night with some strong T'storms. Lost a lot of trees and one punched a hole in my shop roof. No damage inside to anything that is important.

Way to go Jim !!!

You will need to bring her out the next time we gather. I hope it will be sooner rather then later. y1

The smile says it all.

Maybe I should bring her. By the end of the day she was flying as well as me. As you know, it's a challenge keeping up with the youth.

Looks like you are having fun Jim. As others have mentined on other post these are good memories to be cherished. I find that I get as much joy teaching a young kid to fly as I do performing a good pattern.

Thats how it was when the Tornado of 98 hit St Peter. The Sat before, I was out with a father and son teaching them how to fly a Sig Skyray on the old abandoned airport here. Then Sun about 5:pm all hell broke lose. Then they used the airport as a holding site for all the storm debris. That was the last time we were able to use the airport.
You don't stop flying cause your get OLD
You get OLD cause you stopped flying

And it's not always that difficult. Just get them out of the house (video games), and let them feel the pull from the flying plane. Just need to be careful with them not to do too much at once, until they get their turning balance and not get sick and dizzy. I have 7 Grandchildren of which 6 are old enough to fly and the one niece. All 6 of them have been in the circle and three have built planes. Challenge is keeping them interested once they go home (school/sports/etc, etc and of course dang video games.) And to Dennis's comment, my niece does now want her own Smoothie. Colors to be decided on later, but I am prepared for the probably in the pink and purple category.

Great you had a good session with your neice.  My Grandaughter took over the Brodak Mauler after flying it.  She says that is her plane and hers only.  Keep having fun,  DOC Holliday
