Yesterday we got a few of the guys together. We now added two more to the gang. Jim Treace came down from Paris Tennessee / Jacksonville Fl. and brought his new Smoothie. A very nice looking plane. Also Grey Hays, a friend of Kreth’s showed up. He has a plane on the bench, but has not flown for some time. He should be ready the next time we rally the troops. Gray just started working at one of the LHS and has talked the owner to stocking some C/L items. I will have to drop by and check it out.
Ryan and I need to learn the beginner pattern, and wanted to use the Flite Steak to work on overhead eights. The air was a little bumpy yesterday and I could never get the nerve to try an over head with the Streak. Ryan grabbed a spare handle out of our field box and said “now how do you do an overhead 8”. So I showed him what I had seen Paul Walker do in the “YouTube” videos. He took off with the Flite Streak to try the new move. And you guessed it, he did it. I went out to the center of the circle and he said he did not like the feel with the Flite Streak while he did the overhead eight. He wanted to try it with his Tutor. So his next flight was with the Tutor. And you guessed it again. He did 3 overhead eights! Now the student will become the teacher.
“Terror Firma” was out and about yesterday with his friend “Wobbly Wind” and between the two of them they manage to grab two planes by the nose. Jim had also brought a Flite Steak and the fuse broke behind the wing. Some 5 min epoxy and he was back up and flying. The other one was Willie’s FS Trainer. Just as he ran out of fuel the plane just nosed in and popped off the elevator. It should be an easy fix.
Arlan let me sit in the circle with him as he put his Tutor thru the pattern. That sure is the best seat in the house! Kreth put up a number of flights, one was with his Scrapper. That thing is loud and fast! I am sure the kids that were playing baseball at the other end of the field had a hard time keeping there mind on the game. Kreth also had his “Pink” Streak test bed plane. He has a Leo engine on it, and boy did he test it yesterday. Or should I say it tested Kreth’s patience? He could not keep it the engine running. He tried a new plug, new / different fuel, and still no go. But I am sure he will figure it out.
Well that about covers it. We had a full afternoon of fun. We missed a few faces, but maybe next time.
Here are a few pictures.
Thought I would put names with the faces.
Left to Right: Jim, Ryan, Me, Willie, Kreth. (Arlan, and Grey went home early)
Fun was had by all.
