I used to get these small in line fuel filter from a place in Las Vegas that were real small diameter, not much bigger than fuel line. They un-screwed apart for cleaning, and fit inside tight cowlings real well. This place in Vegas catered to pylon racers, but has since gone out of business. Anybody know another source for these that I can purchase on line or easily by phone? I'm down to my last few!

The filters dad is referring to look about like what Joe Yau posted. Great for cowlings with minimal space. Bookmarked as well

Tiny filters have to be cleaned every time you go flying. If you can find the space a larger filter will serve you well.

One of the guys I fly with picked up some tiny filters at the Nats a year or two ago. They have a 60 mesh screem and then a 200 mesh screen. They are just a tad larger in diameter then the fuel tubing but the nice part is that they are clear. You can see if there's any debris and if they need cleaning.

The unit that Joe put up the link to is the one I'm talking about. It is small in diameter, but has a fairly large volume in the chamber that you put towards the tank. All fuel filters have a right and a wrong way to flow. I don't fly as much as I used to, but when I was flying my Shark 45s in both classic and PAMPA events, I didn't have to do any extra ordinary cleaning, just regular maintenance when cleaning "under the hood" after several flying sessions, maybe two or three times a year. The Shark 45 has a pretty narrow cowling, and a typical filter can be used but makes plumbing more difficult. These worked very well for me. I just use them on cowled engines, and use the typical filters on profiles. I like the smaller unit that Great Planes has available.
Sullivan Crap Traps used to be susceptible to air leaks and I experienced that a time or two. I haven't used them in a while, but for the price, I like being able to take mine apart. Back flushing doesn't get some stuff out.

The Brodak filters that warbird posted are very good. A little harder to tell direction than originals because they are all one color.They are formally know as H&R. Only Filter I've ever used! y1

I ordered one of the Brodak filters. It isn't in my catalog, so maybe it's a new item. Hard to guess the size from the picture, but I'll post on how I like it when it comes to me. I get free shipping since my buddy is going up to PA next week and so I sent a shopping list.
If y'all haven't tried Brodak's reddish pinkish colored fuel line, get some, you'll like it. It's tougher and grips the fittings tighter than any line I've ever used. When people's lines are slipping off on wet flying days, this stuff is still holding tight.
