Friday the 16 th before Golden State Contest
« on: September 28, 2009, 06:03:09 PM »
Hi guys,
The Golden State Contest is going to be on October 17th and 18th. I don't know if the Golden State Contest is going to have their field open on the 16th. Last year our club, The PC Flyers, had a nice group come and practice at our field on the day prior to the contest. The club enjoyed having the group last year and would like to welcome all that wants to attend practice on Friday, October 16.

We're the PC Flyers in Fresno, address 7172 N. Cedar Ave. This year we're going to try and mark out two more circles with dolomark. Please let us know if you're interested in flying with us Friday. We plan on opening up the circles at nine o'clock A. M.

That sounds great, Gary.  I'll pass that along to people.  We won't be able to fly at the site on Friday, so this will fill the void.

Hi guys,

We're looking forward to all that wants to join us. The church has room for  motor homes to pull in and rest, that day, just no hookups.  There is several fast food and restaurants within walking distance. If you don't know where we're located just google us and we're really easy to find. Please inform the rest of the group, Gary

Hi guys,
Brian Massey a member of our club has taken some pictures of our field for those that hasn't been to our great location. He also has taken some pictures of our parking area.

I heard some would like to bring their motor homes to the Golden State Site, I don't believe the school would allow the motor homes to spend the night. The PC Club spoke with the church and they told us that they would be able to accommodate some of the motor homes. This would be first come first serve, please let me know if you want a space. The motor homes are welcome to spend Friday and Saturday Night but must be vacated from the church area by 7:00 AM Sunday Morning. We have no hookup's, so you would have to dry camp.

I believe we're located approximately three miles from the contest site. Maybe you could buddy up with someone and ride to the flying field with them. Our club hopes this will help out our fellow fliers.

Hi John,

Yes, we realize how lucky we are. Our club dues are terrible, twenty-four dollars a year???? This pays for our charter insurance and some items the club uses. Most of the time the church furnishes us with most everything we need. Its a dream place and like most dreams can go away. Before we found the church, I checked with every park, school and just about any open area I could find. Where they used to hold the Golden State Contest told me we could fly there. During the week you couldn't fly at the school and it seemed like every time we would get set up to fly at that school a long would come the ball players and guess who wins between fliers and ball players???? So yes we realize how lucky we are. One person mentioned Kearney Park, when I checked with Kearney Park, some time ago, they told me only free flight is allowed.  John if you are in the area come play with us.

I'll be out at the practice field on Friday, with my rebuilt/modified Magician; which I think I will rename, "Plane Magic". ("Plane" coming from the wing I used in the rebuild, being designed by my brother for a plane he called the "Plain Plane". This is the same Magician (or what's left of it) that I flew in competition at the Sepulveda Basin back in '71 or there abouts. That's the last competition I flew in, and I took a third!

I think it only fitting that as I get back into competition, I fly the same plane with the same McCoy .40 RH for power. I know many will laugh when they see the plane, but oh well, I'm at least good for an unchallenged last place!

Looking forward to seeing/meeting a lot of nice people at the Golden State Championships, and the Friday practice.

Hi guys,

Not many days left before the contest. We laid out three circles to play in, this coming Friday the 16TH. If needed I believe we could have five circles. If you want to park your motor home, at the church, please let us know so we can hold a spot for ya, first come first serve. We have decided to use the sprinkler flags to out line the circles, we believe they will be easier for the fliers to see and may be a little different. The club is going to serve tube steaks around lunch time for our guest and their families. So be sure ya have something to drink, we have a water hose??? The club appreciates that Jim Aron is having the Golden State Contest in our area and we hope this will help to bring a few more of our fliers to come and play with the group. The Golden State Contest is a great contest and has brought many great people to our area for many years. The PC Flyers is a new chartered club but most of us has been around C/L most of our life's. We're hoping in the future to hold a fun fly but this will be in the future. Please join us and help to make the Golden State Contest a great turn out. (Remember there isn't as many of us!!!!)
Thank You
Gary Anderson

As Gary just said, the PC Flyers will be hosting a hot dog lunch on Friday the 16th for all those that come to practice at our site. Last year there were 15 or so flyers, but to be safe we will plan on many many more showing up.  :!

Hey, a great flying site, and free hot dogs, what more do you guys want??  y1  Better warn you though, I'll be cooking  S?P

Hi guys,
This is a map to the PC Flyers Field at People's Church. If you're coming from the North of Fresno you would probably take the Herndon exit and head east and when you come to Cedar you would head north (turn left). If you're coming south of Fresno you would probably exit on Hwy 41 North and then you would exit onto Herndon and head east. You would travel down Herndon until you came to Cedar and you would also make a left to Fir Ave. Fir is probably a couple of hundred feet from Herndon. If you stayed straight on Cedar you would run over your competitors plane (might be a good way to beat'm, Ha Ha) Cedar starts to curve right after you turn north. The best way is to google our address: 7172 N. Cedar Ave.  Fresno, CA 93720. We hope the weather holds up and we're looking forward to see ya at our field.

Hi Kim,

The PC Flyers plans are to keep the flying field open as long as there is daylight. Lets hope that the rain lets up and we get to play this coming Friday. I believe we have enough room to accommodate all the fliers in the Golden State Contest and don't forget we have room for the ones that would like to dry camp. I believe Jimmy will be there but I believe he stated he will arriving late afternoon. You don't want to miss seeing Jimmy new beautiful ship and I'm sure there will be many more beautiful ship at our site.
