Title: Frank Carlisle
Post by: peabody on March 21, 2016, 04:53:28 PM
I have learned that Frank Carlisle has passed.
Frank was known for his red/white and blue stars and bars paint schemes, and for his willingness to help others.
He was from the Flint area of Michigan, I believe. I got to know him from his frequent appearances at the Brodak Fly-In, when he flew Expert PA.
I'll miss him.

Damn. This comes as a shock, I hadn't heard about Frank having any issues?

I first met Frank at the Sig contest one year and we conversed many times thereafter, I always felt he was a great guy. He was flying a profile P-51B model that year, finished in his traditional stars-and-stripes scheme. Later on when he was building his big "L.A. Heat" twin I made some suggestions and then worked with him designing the paint scheme that he ended up using on it, in red white and blue of course. It even ended up being the model used in the RSM kit ad photos. I always felt honored to see him finish that model with the scheme that we'd collaborated on. After he retired the model a few years ago he generously offered to me as a gift, but with the distance between us we were never able to get the hand-off accomplished.

R.I.P. Frank, another great one gone.  :(

Everyone,
Frank did pass away over the weekend.  He had struggled with recovery after he was hit by a car and received some serious injuries.  Per his wishes, we really did not talk about it openly.  Rich is right that he was certainly known for his Stars and Bars paint schemes, he did many.  Wayne should be happy to know that I have his LA Heat in my basement from when he was downsizing his fleet.  I had hoped that I would be able to get a full flight in with it for him one day, but I missed that opportunity but we did get a number of attempts to get it when it was in his fleet.  Perhaps he will be watching when I get that flight in.

For reference, Frank was from Detroit but flew with the crew in the greater Flint area.  He will be missed for sure.

John

I'm very sad to hear this. We first met Frank at Brodak's, where Mike Alimov and I helped him get going with repairs and trim. He was so enthusiastic and had a great sense of humor. Over the next few years, his building and flying improved to where we were all looking at his little innovations. We'd missed him at the Cleveland contest the last few years; he and his wife always brought good cheer and lots of fun. This is a real loss to those who had the pleasure of his company. 'wish I had better pictures to remember Frank.- SK

He'll be missed, that's for sure.  He was a lot of fun to compete with.

I wondered why he seemed to have disappeared. He had some very entertaining posts some years back about several crazy dreams he had experienced. Got to meet him at Brodaks a few years ago when he brought out his L A Heat and Pathfinder in patriotic colors. Rest in peace Frank.
