FPV racer following a control line plane...
« on: July 01, 2020, 10:15:22 PM »
My buddy Dan was flying a topflite tutor 2, so I took the opportunity to follow him around a little with my 2.5 inch racer. No flight plan for either of us. Just punching holes in the sky.

Haha!, well that part of the flight was planned ahead. I told my buddy, don't worry, I won't hit you. Just fly. He said it was interesting flying with that little mosquito buzzing around!

So I'm thinking the flying under the canopy thing is considered a little out of the realm of being safe. So I emailed Rich Hansen the clip with this note. I'd also like the feedback here, I'm not easily offended at all.

Hello Rich, and good day.
My name is Dane, ama number 919356.
I was flying FPV at our local club field and video recording my friend flying a control line airplane. I posted the video, and recieved lots of compliments as it's a new view of an old pastime. However, it was also brought to my attention some may view it as unsafe. Let me preface this with, I had clearly communicated what I was going to be doing before hand, and had 2 spotters (which you can see in the video). Everyone involved is friends here. If I can take 3 minutes of your time to view this, and give me your honest opinion I would be very grateful regardless of the outcome.

You've got some skills with that little buzz bomb, I'll say!

Pretty neat.

What was that location? Looks to be an old airport turned into race track, then partially abandoned?

This is actually William Bennett Airfield. It was purpose built as an RC runway. The control line grass section we are flying over is the most recent addition, with the concrete center. It was fully repaved I think around 94. I started flying here in 96
