I'm looking towards next year and what to do next.
Please post your interest in ABC sets to suit the FP40. They'd be stunt timed and similar and the 5 port layout that has proven successful in the ST51 & other engines we've done.
Brian
-
Sounds like a great plan. There are tons of FP40 engines that could be more useful with a more stunt friendly change to the timing. I have a drawer full of new and lightly used FP40 and Tower 40 engines that I have ignored in lieu of the LA46, which always runs well for me. What numbers would you change on the timing overall?
-
Sounds like a good idea to me, too. I have both a Tower 40 and an FP40 that I'd like to use with no fear of runaway! Put me down for two.
Steve
-
The FP40 is a very high quality engine. I have been happy with the re-timed (ground on) FP40's that I have. I do not think they are great for stunt with their stock cylinder, but an ABC set that has idealized timing for stunt would surely be a hit.
It will be very important to get the number of ports, port configuration and timing just right. Without the constraint of working with the stock ports, the potential is huge. Do that and you could change Stunt.
-
Sounds like a great idea I would definitely take a couple of sets
Tom Weedman
-
Hi Brian,
I would take 3 sets for FP40.
Thanks, Greg
-
Not me, but bear in mind that a BG ABC FP.40 P&L would also fit an FP .35 and make it a .40, much as you can change an FP .25 to an FP .20. y1 Steve
PS: Yes, you'll need a .40 head, or a lathe to make a .35 head into a button head.
-
Hi Brian,
That's great I think that's a great start. My question is this, why don't you choose the HP 40? Way better motor, lighter and has ball bearings also. Ii have a Gold Cup 40 true ABC (no ring) and what a power house (ask Randy) with or without a pipe. Maybe not as popular as the FP but way more power.
Later,
Mikey (Mike Pratt),
PS, I Take two p&l sets for FP’s if you run them. H^^
-
Hi Mike, I actually already have a production run of the HP40 in progress. All are spoken for at this time. They are stunt timed and a 5 port arrangement. The FP40 will be the same if I get enough interest to do a run of them.

Hi Brian.
I´ll take two of the OS 40 FP sets. Are you planning to make another run of ST60 sets??
Kind regards.
Manuel.
-
Hi Manuel, thanks for your interest. I'll add you to the list. It looks like the numbers may be there.
I have a small run of ST60 in progress at present.

FP-40 stock was only okay, so I retimed it and then really liked it. This is a great idea! I'll take 2 sets, please.
Please make sure you talk to Ron Burns about your mods. He modded an FP-40 years ago for Jimmy Paul and it was one of the nicest sounding stunt runs I ever heard! It sounded like a completely different engine!
What did you do on the ST-60? I'm interested in hearing more about that.
Thanks,
Scott
-
Will these come with a new head as the ST51 did ?
-
I'm in for 2 sets , thanks Brian I'll try to remember what the amount was this time.
John

One set for me Brian.
-
I'm not planning on that Greg. I'll supply shims as usual to reduce the comp if you want to experiment.

I would estimate them at around $130AUD shipped to the USA, $140AUD shipped to Europe & South America. That's around $100-$106US. The set will include piston/liner/rod/pin/shims.
List updated guys.

Could you provide some information about these? Are they ported exactly the same as from OS, or have the port heights, size, shape, number, etc. been changed? If retimed, it would be nice to know the changes that were made or at least what to expect.
Thanks
-
I would like a set pkease Brian
Many thanks
Craig
-
They will be typical of all my other stuff and will utilise port timing etc that has proven to work. Exh timing will be 138 and transfers 126. The boost port will be split like I did for the ST51 and am doing for the HP40. So it will be turning the motor into a user friendly purpose built stunt engine.

We are still finishing off LA46, ST51, HP40, Fox 35, ST35 and then will start on FP40 and others, so they will be a few months off yet. I'm hoping for mid year.

Have you posted the list somewhere? That way we can assure ourselves that we are on it, as opposed to posting here and asking individually (over and over).
Scott

Not sure if I'd be breaching people's privacy posting the list up Scott.
I don't mind people posting up or PM'ing me to check.

BRIAN ,
Do these have piston skirt cuttaways , or a Full skirt .
Why Im asking is that they drop in a FSR OS, Magnum , Royal, ASP & Thunder Tiger
(http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=19295&d=1375296071)
Paul Walker is said to have used a FP P/L in a FSR 40 ( refitted for wrist pin circlips )
Playing Around - The ones with piston cut outs stuff up the equation , as the FPisnt tangental - Ex at side 90 Degrees . >:(
incidently , while we're here , the 45 FSR has differant bore stroke & liner O.D. so is not a interchange , bar front housing & suchlike. >:(
-
Example of something like that ( cuttaway / hole . By Pass . :-\)

Full skirt
Oh Goodie .
I think you can put me as Definate on one of these . Three would be usefull, but ONE will have to do . :(
they run pads , or circlips , on the wrist pin ?? ( Circlips preferable for the FSR , thesell then fit all the FSR Clones,
and time a ASP ( acceleration speed and power , we're told ) down from 160 Exhaust . ) H^^
-
The pin will be circlipped.
Stunt timed
Yes they will thus work in the 40FSR and Tower 40 and anything else FP40 sets fit.

A note to everyone waiting for these.
I am having to increase the price of each set by $5 because many aren't following my payment instructions.
It's a small amount, but necessary due to lack of co-operation.

Hi Brian
Apologies for seeming thick, but what are your payment instructions?
And I'll do my best to stick to them.
-
In my messages I have asked everyone to accept the paypal fees at their end if they are using a credit card etc, and to ensure I receive the quoted amount. Only a couple of people so far have done so. Some have checked with me and are good people, others have ignored this request or just aren't well aquainted with paypal. I keep my margins very low to keep these as affordable as possible. I do it as a favor to the CL community and occupy myself - not to get rich.
So now instead of trusting people to do the right thing I have had to add an allowance of $5 to each set. Not a big deal to most, but some people are already complaining.. I live on a disability pension and am bankrolling $11K production runs and some people just don't seem to appreciate what I do. Some people just can't be pleased.
Sorry guys, I'm just venting. In any business there will always be problem customers.

Yes Mark, you are on the list mate. It's just taking me a fair bit of time messaging all 70 people on the list. I only have a couple of productive hours in the day so it is a slow process.

I know I’m way late and there are several on the list ahead of me, but if you have any extras that aren’t claimed, I will take a set.
Is there a sign up thread for more ST .51 sets?
Thanks, Matt

I'll add you to the bottom of the list Matt. At this point they are all spoken for, but you might get lucky if someone doesn't want theirs.
I can add you to the ST51 list. I have enough names to do a small run of them after we get through the current workload.

So, even though I don't use a credit card with my PayPal I have to pay an extra $5? Now I'm up over $190. Frankly, that is a lot of money for pistons, sleeves, and rods for 2 FP-40s. For that amount of money, these things better be the best thing since sliced bread. Unfortunately, I saw the LA-46 piston you made (one of my buddies brought his to the Hazelton contest). They were having a heck of a time getting it to fit in the motor due to oversize bosses in the piston. I'm also on a "fixed income" and thinking you can give mine to one of the guys on your waiting list.

I have bought several of the LA 46 units and never had the slightest problem fitting them. They all fit like a glove.
If you don't want them Ill be happy to take them at "over $190".
There's a long waiting list for Brian's craftsmanship and for good reason .
-

Apparently experiences vary. Sorry about that.
-
Apparently experiences vary. Sorry about that.
This is somewhat unlikely (but not impossible) as the parts are the same and within microns of each other having been made on a computer numerically controlled machine (CNC) and then inspected and hand deburred and fitted by Brian.
The piston and rod needs to be fitted first on its own without the liner being in place. The engine being held with the venturi up and the back plate end down allowing gravity to help the rod drop to a place on its piston pin where it can easily slide on to the crankshaft pin.
“Hope this helps”

Scott that's for 2 sets that you asked for. It includes piston/liner/rod/pin/head shims/backplate gasket.
Yes, the piston bosses were increased for engine life on the LA46 pistons. Some have mentioned that they found them finniky to assemble, so if I do a second run of them I plan to reduce the bosses a small amount to allow easier assembly.
If you don't want yours it's no problem, the waiting list has ended up larger than the production run.

Hi Brian.
I have read problems with PayPal payment in some customers.
I want and need to tell you how much your effort is appreciated at least by me.
Please, check my payments and in case there is something wrong I will refund the amount.
I am mechanical engineer, and from Bristunt followed the impressive material offered. Once economics let, I began to do business with you.
Your offering is invaluable, as there is EXCLUSIVE!!!.
Please, my heart says keep going, but I completely understand your disappointment.
Big thanks.
Manuel Cortés.
Emailed to Brian directly. I needed that an needed to share with you.
Kind regards from Spain.

Hi Brian I haven't heard from you as far as I know. Is there another way to pay for the FP40 parts?? I don't do paypal, heck, I don't even know how it works. Years ago I used to buy BSA motorcycle parts (spares, mate) directly from England using a personal check made in the amount they quoted. Would this work for you?? Thanks, Roy DeCamara
-
Hi Roy,
You are on the list and not forgotten. I am just having trouble getting enough productive time to contact all 70 people.
Unfortunately other payment methods become cost prohibitive to both customers and me. There are things like Western Union Money transfer which is very dear. Perhaps one of your flying buddies or a family member have paypal? As long as they tell me who the payment is made on behalf of it's good.
Brian

Fitted new P/L today to my FP 40,tried all parts fit before assembly, rod to crankpin was good.
Liner was a slide fit into the case, oiled up and assembled, getting the rod onto the crankpin in the case
took some doing,I ended up putting a small lead on the crankpin with 800 wet/dry,on the test stand tomorrow.
Has had 6 short runs of a minute each, cooling between runs, started first flick.
