I have a basement full of airplanes and old engines, and sometimes I think a Ringmaster and a Fox 35 is all you really need. They always put a smile on my face when I fly them.

The blat/burp during outside maneuvers makes for smiles all around.

Hi Dennis, you mean to tell me that The fox .35 will burp/stutter during outside maneuvers? according to everyone on this forum, the Fox doesn't do this.

I met an older gentleman while flying in Alameda, who claimed he had a Fox .35 that never burped while performing outside maneuvers. I watch his next flight and as expected the motor stumbled and burped on EVERY outside maneuver. After the flight he comes over to me, grinning ear to ear and says "What do you think, pretty smooth run wouldn't you say?" When I told him that that the damn motor almost quit during half of the maneuvers, he says "I  never saw that"
All I could do was walk away shaking my head.
And to those who will say " Fox .35's are the greatest stunt motor ever, just look at their winning record" , I say, look at the flat head Ford motor.
There were thousands of races won with that motor. But would you run it against any modern powerplant? I think not.

LARRY, NOSTALGIA AND HONORING THE EARLY DAYS OF THIS HOBBY IS MORE IMPORTANT TO SOME OF US THAN BEING "UP TO DATE TECHNICALLY" OR BEING "FIRST WITH THE LATEST STUFF" (such as electrics, etc.).   TO EACH HIS OWN!   y1    D>K    H^^

Actually I wanted to add something to the previous posting I made.

I actually have two Fox 35's that run very, very well and produce competitive power for a light 35.
They each have over 200.00 worth of after market parts, AAC, different head, Hi Zoot Crank, different backplate, Tiger needle valve assembly, reworked crankcase.
Added to the initial cost of the engines for the two of them you could buy 3 Aerotiger 36's...
I'm not going to go in to a comparison between these Foxes and the Aerotiger...that would be ridiculous as nearly everyone here knows.

I will mention one thing...the horrid Fox Burp is very real but only occurs when it is mounted in a profile configuration.  At least that has been my experience.

Anybody wan'na buy a couple of Foxes for 250.00 apiece.  LL~ LL~

Yes Terrence to each his own.
Do you happen to recall the initial question of this thread????
Steve asked a question about a particular motor which I have owned dozens of since the early seventies. I thought the motors were great.
Until I found out what a great motor was. My answer to Steve is, if you just want to burn fuel and fly holes in the sky and experience inconsistent engine runs, by all means use the Fox. To each his own
If you want to get the most out of the airplane you build and the most out of each flying session, then I suggest you use one of the high tech motors you have spoke of. Again to each his own.
