I have a fox engine with four bolt backplate and an angled plug head. Dont know what size it is, no markings, looks to be a little bigger than a 35.
-
It Probably A 36 or a 29 look on the mounting lugs see if a 29 is stamped on there if not it is a 36

I have one, Its a 36.

If in good shape it will have a surprising amount of power and run a good two stroke. Kind of a poor man's combat engine.
-
that ounds like a fox 59. . jim
-
yep, fox 59. look it up on the net , mrcoa site
-
That's not really enough description for anybody to make a positive ID. Can you post a picture?
-
Nope, not a Fox 59 that would be much larger than a stunt 35 and has a horizontal glow plug, Could be in the 29,35,or 36 square venturi series or the 1972 and later bushed shaft, round venturi sport series (most likely).

The only good pic I have is of one some fool put the head on backwards.

sorry guys memory is a little hazy , just that the only 4 bolt backplate with an angle plug fox I ever saw was a 59, duke and tonys oeiginal creation. Tony being Tony Naccaratto SR, pee wees dad. if its bigger than a 35 google fox 59 see if thats it jim

Yep that is the .36 and one good engine if run like Duke says to run em. H^^

Lotsa version of this engine made from 1972 through 1980. The regular CL version with the stunt 40 NVA, the pressure version with a cut off and bored out intake using the 36X CS NVA, various RC versions, and a profile carrier engine. John Hall sent me pics of his carrier special.

Gee Garf guess thats what I get for staying away so longI. I never saw a 4 bolt 35

Thanks thats it its a 36 with angled venturi. I didnt know there where any other production foxes with angled plug. But I have a 59 and its huge compared to 35.

Actually, the old 1962 Fox 15X was Fox's first engine with a tilted plug if you ignore the 1956 29R that had TWO tilted plugs. But in 1965 when Duke put the second version of the 36X in its own case, he again introduced the tilted plug. It was used thereafter on all 36Xs until he started using head buttons instead of a one piece cylinder head.
Kind of neat is the October 1964 MAN ad where he introduced the engine and touted the tilted plug as an end to skinned knuckles when changing a plug. Only thing is, he showed the plug tilted towards the bypass instead of the exhaust. The engine was never made like this; you do see them on Ebay when someone has put the head on backwards. In the picture of the engine, the tilted plug has been amateurishly added by airbrushed.
