Title: Fox 35 Stunt High Compression Head
Post by: Bill Mohrbacher on July 07, 2012, 01:31:24 PM
Folks on the other forum were asking about this high compression head for a stunt 35.  I was talking to MArvin Denny and he hadn't ever seen one; hard to believe!!

So here it is Big Iron!

Sorry folks, I can't get my pictures to post; that's a first, too!

Big mystery, I'll have to try later - I can't even post pictures that I have posted with no trouble earlier!

Ok, sneaky work around.  MECA has started a new Bulletin Board - I've listed the pictures there:

I'm struggling to understand why anyone would want such a thing for a stunt Fox?  It's not like it's gonna outrun anything regardless.  Sort of like running a speed prop on it, with hi nitro.  What's the point?

A crankshaft crossed him once. You can't let that stand unanswered.

You would do better asking what year it was produced.

The fox .29 and .35 were used a lot in FF and that is the head that was used  for that event. The Fox worked well in FF models. Using a 10/4 and that head in a RamRod 750 was a good combination. The engine run was only 15 seconds.

I make them and they're stock appearing on the outside.  Never seen one from the factory.

Those should be popular, with the folks who race Fox 35 engines now. How much MM?

I once flew a very nice Nobler of Don McClave's that had a Fox .35 running high RPM and low pitch...totally weird in the world of Foxes but by far the best flying Fox powered stunt ship I've ever flown.  Don't know if it had a high compression head on it but the earlier description from Eddy R. about Foxes in free flights with 10X4 props and hi comp heads makes my retired stunt guys mind ponder what was under the hood.

That high compression head looks very much like the head from the 36X. I think they fit the 35S. Seems the approach would allow richer setting with lower nitro fuel.

Yes it looks just as crude as everything else on a Fox 35

I believe it was intended to enable the Fox to be run on no nitro fuel.

      Hi Bill:

I have two of these HC heads.   Do they improve anything? I have never tached the engines with or without the heads.

I talked to Duke many years ago about the No. 2 head and he told me that when  K&B came out with their.35, he designed the HC head to be able to compete with them.

I use no nitro in my engines with the HC head and they run very well

Will I see you at the Lebanon Flea Market?

                                                                          Be well m friend,

                                                                          Frank McCune

I'll be there.  Sorry you missed David's Collecto. We had a good time.  It was possibly the last one.  Poor attendance.
