It's official, I'm retired... Now the real work begins!
« on: November 07, 2007, 09:35:58 PM »
Hi all:

Here's the official announcement; I've just retired as the Aeromodeling Editor of Model Aviation magazine. This essentially ends a 22 year stint as the Editor of one modeling magazine or the other.

I have been asked to accept the post of Editor Emeritus of Model Aviation, and have just signed the contract for that post. Essentially this is a stipened consulting position with a few monthly duties. It suits me just fine, as I will still have some influence on what construction features get published. Rest assured I will always do what I can to keep CL as an integral part of the mix as often as possible.

This move gives me a lot of freedom to do many other things that I have wanted to get involved in, and it also finally gives me freedom to come on here and comment from time to time on some controversial subjects. As the Editor of MA I had to be very careful what I posted on the various forums. As a spokesperson for the magazine and the AMA I could not always voice my own personal feelings on many matters. Trust me, all that is about to change.

What am I going to do now? Well I don't have the time or energy right now to lay it all out for you, but I'll try to  encapsulate it a bit.

First of all I'm reopening Robin's View Productions for business. I had to all but shut down my personal hobby business concerns due to a possible perceived conflict of interest while I was the editor of MA. You may not have noticed, but I have not advertised any of my wares in the modeling magazines or in Stunt News for many years. Thankfully I have had a very large and loyal group of customers who kept all of it going in a part time and unofficial  manner.

I have lots of new stuff to offer and many new concepts to promote. I will soon have a new web site (I shut down the old RVP web site many years ago) and will inform everyone of the myriad products and services I will now offer. These of course include foam wing cutting services and Lost-Foam wings and cradle sets.

If you have specific questions for me now on what I have to offer at this point, please do not hesitate to call or email me. My phone number is: 610-746-0106 and my email address is: robinhunt@rcn.com

Another venture that I've begun with a close personal friend is an aerial photography service. We take commercial and residential aerial photos from a very innovative new RC model design. This model was purpose-designed by Dean Pappas and it is just fantastic. If you would care to take a look at it or at some of our work, please visit our Shutterhawk Aerial Photography web site at: www.shutterhawkap.com

We are very pleased with the initial results and are getting new accounts on an almost daily basis. Talk about making your hobby your job...

As many of you know, I'm also a motorcycle fanatic. I've been a Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program Rider Coach for 6 years, and for the past three years I've been a Site Coordinator and state licenser as well. When students pass our 15 hour course I stamp their permits and it becomes a valid PA motorcycle license, good until they get an update card from Harrisburg. This has been a very rewarding job in both personal satisfaction and in dollars, as we get paid quite well as Site Coordinators.

So, it seems that my retirement will usher in the most busy time of my life, and I'll be working more than ever before. Seems to be a Hunt family trait...

Anyway, just thought you all might like to know what's happening.

Congratulations on your retirement, or should we say, new start on life.  Many thanks for the great service you have provided over the years.  Hopefully, this will allow you to do even more flying now that we're in our "mid" years.  (Yeah, I'm feeling it too!!!)  Have a great up coming Thanksgiving and a re-newed start to 2008.

Congratulations on your retirement and thank you for all that you have done for the hobby over the years.
You did not mention it in your list of "retirement" projects, but I assume that the follow-on articles about building the Hole Shot are on that list.  I for one am looking forward to them.

Hi Bob,
You have already found what it took me two days to discover - I didn't have time to work!!! n~  Now that you're "retired' maybe you'll be needing that custom built guitar?   #^  (That will help keep me remembering that I didn't have time to work! %^@)
In all seriousness, God's best for you my brother. HH%%

I must have misread the title of this thread. I could have sworn I saw the word "retired" LOL  I have been retired for two years and it is great. I don't know why I didn't do it 30 years ago. Oh yes!! I just remembered why, it was money.

Okay, let's qualify this... I'm retired from EDITING, not from life! And as for the smell PT, well now it's ozone instead of burnt castor.

Seriously, thanks to everyone for the kind words and support. Now, please order a wing or a plan or a DVD... Bobby needs a new sportbike y1

Good for you, Bob!

I've been retired for a year and a half now, and if you need some "dual" on doing
NUTHIN', I can instruct you! ;->

Looking forward to more innovations from you, thanks again for all you have given.

Best regards,

L.

"A Bradypus, or Sloth, am I, I live a life of ease.
contented not to do or die, but idle as I please.
I have three toes on either foot, or half a doz. on both.
With leaves and fruits, and shoots to eat,
how sweet to be a Sloth.

The world is such a cheerful place
when viewed from upside-down.
It makes a rise of every fall,
a smile of every frown.
I watch the fleeting flutter by
of butterfly or moth.
And think of all the things I'd try
if I were not a Sloth:

Oh, I could climb the very highest Himalayas,
be among the greatest tennis players,
win at chess,
or marry a Princess,
or study hard and be an eminant professor.
I could be a millionaire,
play the clarinet,
travel everywhere,
learn to cook,
catch a crook,
win a war,
then write a book about it.

I could paint a Mona Lisa,
I could be another Caesar,
compose an oratorio that was sublime.
The door's not shut on my genius.
but I just don't have the time.

For days and days among the trees
I sleep and dream and doze
Just gently swaying in the breeze
suspended by my toes.
While eager beavers overhead
rush through the undergrowth.
I watch the clouds beneath my feet;
How sweet to be a Sloth."

Hi Bob,

Congratulations on your retirement as Aeromodeling Editor, though I must confess that I will miss your "Modeling Spoken Here" column. You convey very interesting thoughts and insights. Can we assume that you will continue with your "Control Line Aerobatics" column?

If your retirement time permits, I hope you will continue with your videos or DVD's where you interview some of modeling's icons. Many of us will never got to know these guys and their stories the way you cover them.

I would hope that there is a good market for "Stunt Flyer Video Magazine" or something similar.

In any case, we will be waiting for more good things from "Robin's View Productions".

Good luck.
