Fox .35 on a ringmaster, how high on fuel supply line
« on: July 26, 2010, 08:11:49 PM »
I've been away for a long time and didn't know much before y1 but I've read enough comments about the importance of the tank supply line height in relation to the needle valve  on the Fox to ask, ...  should I mount the tank low, high or on center?  Its nothing special, just an old grimy Fox .35 on a  Ringmaster, It'll have a muffler and I was going to use a uniflo tank (by modifying one I have)  Whats the best position?    Help me get spinnin in circles again!!!!! H^^
Thanks!
I've started plenty...would be nice to finish something!!!

Hi Dennis; Since you are going with a uniflow tank, I would mount it with the pickup from the tank at least a 1/4" above the middle of the venturi. That should get you in the ball park. Be sure and use a hot plug.

Don't forget plenty of Castor in the fuel.

Thanks Jim, Is a uniflow better than a std tank for this situation, I guess I could go either way ;D  I was just going to take a std wedge tank and remove the normal fill tube and put in a longer copper tube that ran up near the pickup tube end...  Am I thinking right there or am I going overboard n~  I guess I want to be able to do loops and stuff and try to learn at least some of the stunt pattern if that makes a difference on the tank selection, Thanks again

Garf, I got two gallons of Fox 5% nitro 29% castor  (non synthetic)..  I probably should have gotten 10% nitro, but I had my mom pick it up from the factory last month when she was down there visiting relatives ;D  She's the best!

That will work just fine. You could add a small amount of hi nitro car fuel to get a boost.

The one thing nice about uniflow, is that you can make it either uniflow or standard vent by just changing which one you plug. All of my tanks are uniflow, but I do run some of them as standard vent. I generally try it both ways and see which works best for the set up I have. My McCoy 40's like standard vent tanks, so I plug the uniflow, and leave the standard vent open. As a rule the standard vent tanks will speed up some towards the end of the flight, and uniflow's do not. But I sometimes get a better stunt run on standard vent, and sometimes on uniflow. That is why it is best to try it both ways. I have also found that when running uniflow, I have to have the needle richer on the ground, as it will lean out more in the air, where with standard vent, it will richen a little in the air.

My experience is at odds with most.  I find that my uniflow outlet in the tank ends up very close to the same level as the hole in the spraybar.  It doesn't matter where the pickup is, so long as it is in fuel.  The engine thinks it is sucking fuel from the end of the uniflow tube, and doesn't know about the pickup location.
