Fox 15 Hurl Crowd Control
« on: September 16, 2023, 10:07:54 AM »
Has anyone been up to Napa to see the Fox 15 Hurl Stadium build?

Is it complete?

Any pictures?

The big event is next weekend, very surprised there hasn’t been much reporting about potential crowd control as the JCT and Buttafuoco stunt teams are rumored to be in attendance.

If I may be so bold, I would like to inquire as to the nature of the humble beginnings of the Hurl?  It was a most auspicious and historic event in the annals of sporting events to be sure, though none could have foreseen the degree to which the Hurl would come to dominate sport.  In fact, it has become the very definition of athletic achievement, and certainly the one to which all other sporting events are compared.    Its my understanding that the reason we see so little reported in the media regarding the Hurl was the result of its immense popularity, as it had come to dominate all reporting of sporting events, and only the intervention of international treaty ratified by the Senate, as well as Presidential EO #667732 (signed and filed under the strictest levels of classification, and cleverly hidden from public scrutiny in a box in Joe Biden's garage) to limit the coverage of the Hurl, allowed other sporting events to once again come out of the shadows and into the public eye.  I understand that today, according to these strict reporting limits, the only live coverage is carried by ESPN-8 The Ocho, with other mentions sometimes found in Obscure Sports Quarterly.   Are any of the great Hurlers of the past, who were there at the beginning, still with us to share with us these great moments from the past??

As many of us are approacing an advanced number of years, is there any thought to having an additional Hurl category for those who long ago threw out their shoulders?
Perhaps a catapult category would be appropriate.

I hope the event is a successs.

How about an underarm (softball) throw. Without the wind up of course! Speaking from experience after rotator cuff surgery.

As I understand it, advanced years would qualify you for "Geezer Points" that would be added to your throw distance. The Hurl is nothing if not inclusive.

If The Hurl is to be considered inclusive, there must be a Women's Division, which then invites Trans Women to compete for the Women's Division fame and riches, despite still having their OEM doodads intact. Is the Comissioner of The Hurl ready to police this development, with lawyers and medical personnel on speed dial? And, will there be a safe space for the losers? The stress of losing must be awful!

I regret that I wasn't able to attend the Meat & Meet/Fox Hurling, but to show my support, my shoulder and elbow are both sore.   y1 Steve

There are no divisions whatsoever, men, women, and any variant thereof, and Larry, all compete together in the same category. What could be more inclusive? We aren't even that picky about species...

In the same vein, I note that while Eric Fitzgerald handily defended his 2022 title with a heroic - and I will just say it, majestic - hurl, young MacKenzie used her fast-pitch softball skills to tie with a certain 4-time Champion for second at a very creditable 134 feet with no Geezer points (since she is 16). Thus demonstrating that the 15 Geezer points neatly make up for the extra 46 years. One important difference is that she can probably lift her arm above her shoulder today, whereas our 4-time champ, that might be a problem.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I always await the results.  I could be the only one who was rooting for the Fox to win.

In a sense, it did, because unfortunately no one was strong enough to Hurl it into the nearby Napa River.

Do the rules expressly prohibit the use of some type of assist?  I'm thinking, maybe a bicycle inner tube and a sturdy post imbedded in the ground.

Remember guys.  I thought of it first!

Those Fox .15s are trash!  About a hundred years ago I mentored several young men who chose them.  They somehow managed to dominate Jr.-Sr. Goodyear and Jr.-Sr Only .15 Combat in that area for a few years.  Yes, the SuperTigre .15s were faster, but these KIDS somehow easily won the restarts.

Incidentally, winner Brian here became a Marine Corps pilot.  Others include an aero engineer and a FAA Traffic Controller.  Good "kids"!

Oh, and a question: must the engine include a working needle valve assembly?  Can a Rochester 2-barrel carb be substituted?

Are precautions taken to make sure that the engines in the Hurl are not kidnapped?  With the prices on EBay I would expect shady dealings.  My own Fox 15 was kidnapped in 2015.  There was no ransom demand so I assume it made it's way to the black market.  It was last seen riding in a Jr. Nobler wearing a Topflight 8-6 Nylon prop.
