Found another place to flt.
« on: September 09, 2006, 10:29:51 PM »
In the past I have posted (maybe on Stuka, not sure if I did it here) that we are in jeopardy of loosing our flying site in Springfield to a future dog park.  While the park department has assured us that we will be relocated and have another flying site they haven't produced an alternative site (and while I'm not giving up I'm not holding my breath).

I had planned to fly today and forgot the key to get into the site so we headed home and decided to check out an elementary school 5 min from the house, guess what--not perfect or ideal but definitely a flyable site.

The best part, I put up 1 flight and had an 8th grader come up on his bike full of questions.  I explained the plane, let him feel the controls and all that  and he left excited (I was kicking myself for not having a trainer with me).  I did give him my contact information to give to his parents (the world being the way it is today I wasn't comfortable asking him for his contact info) so maybe we'll get him in the air yet.

Putting up a few flights at local school yards might be worth a shot at getting some kids flying.
