Anyone know this engine?
« on: August 29, 2023, 08:17:17 AM »
Found this at a swap meet around thirty years ago.
New, never mounted or run.
Single ring - appears to be a Dykes type.
Sport engine?
Stunt?
I will run it soon and then find a suitable plane for it.

Based on the year, it was K&B entry into several events that mandated "plain bearing only", such as Slow Combat and Profile Carrier.

Machinist modelers were beating the system that was designed to open the events to beginners by retrofitting ball bearing 40's into plain bearing 35's.  So K&B did the same thing at the factory level.

This came to a jolting stop when the rules were altered to allow ball bearing inn these events, so the product you posted became sub-optimum.

Sceptre Flight : K&B 35 Series 75 . Made from 1961 ?  .

Dykes ring . Venturie insert for stunt . Pressure nipple for no insert .
Looks like its moderately usefull . 9 ounce weight might be a hindrance .

Almost a  half horse silenced , 3/4 horse on jungle juice . Which is about ST 46 ( muffled ) output .

It has a lot in common with the K&B 40. Same mounting, ball bearing front end interchanges with the plain bearing front. It was a popular sport racing engine in the late 70's and early 80's. It's a perfectly useable sport flying engine. I don't know if anyone ever tried to make it into a serious stunt engine.

Thanks Guys, for that helpful information.

I'll run in the engine in the near future and then try it on a test plane.
Should be interesting!

I have many K&B engines but only experience with a few.

Hello
My wife Alina has a K&B35 Series 75 on a Brodak Ringmaster (has a longer tail moment), with a Tatone Peace Pipe and 4 ounce tank. A nice combination that works very well with more power than our Enya or Fox 35 Ringmasters.

Piston and ring, big foxburp bypass, no exhaust flange, heavy bolt on front end, strikes one two, three and four.

Bob,. That is the early version, The newer ones had the prop shafts keyed into the crankshafts. So, the prop shaft would not spin out of the crankshaft.
