Funny...and works for any type of model airplane competitions
« on: January 28, 2011, 07:17:32 PM »
I saw the link to #1 on the SCATen newsletter (FAI Free Flight). The subject of these videos is actually R/C glider thermal flying, but if you don't see a close similarity to CL (and FF) contests, you just haven't been flying contests long enough. These are very funny, so be prepared to laugh. You will be surprised by the format of the videos, but hang in there, and you will enjoy them a lot. Bill Little will get a yuk out of the ref to blind squirrels... LL~ Steve

John...Maybe you just have to be a contest flier to see the humor. It's all just the same as CLPA, CL Combat, FAI FF, etc. I showed them to my wife, and she laughed like crazy. She never laughs about model planes... %^ Steve

Thanks Steve.  Now I finally understand - I just need to spend a bunch more money and get a good coach.  Want a job, or do I have to ask Dan?

Russ...EXACTLY so! However, I think you need to have a coach nearer the ranch. Maybe you could move to Eugene or at least Roseburg?  H^^ Steve

PS: John...Videos #2 and #3 might drive the point home mo'betta. #2 is the Pilot's Meeting...illuminating! And #3 is a great summary of why we put ourselves through this. C'mon, give it another try!

Everybody is ready for #3. It's about Experts helping the lower skill classes, why they do it, and why we go to contests.  y1 Steve

I actually laughed the most during #1. I think we've all met "Mr. Red Four Meter" at least once before. I loved his ownership justification descriptions, funny stuff, but most of us have used similar ones. The CD character was pretty good too though. Thanks for the post. LL~

Here are three more. The first is model airplane type, the second is full size airshow pilot vs aerobatic competition pilot and is rated R, the third is full sized monoplane vs biplane pilot.
All are very funny, to me.

John

Just last week I received an E-mail from a flier who plans on entering CL Scale at the NATS this year as I was the head judge last year.  His question was   -  Which rules are going to be enforced?  I think that was covered in part 2.  LOL
