Bob,
I am glad to hear that you are building Jim's "Formula S".
With regard to the the "Spirit of America" I was very privleged that Jim asked me if wanted to fly it after the St Louis team trials in '69. I was a judge that year.
The airplane was very easy to fly, and felt very close to my own "Clipper". I immediately felt at home with the airplane.
Jim, in his typical kind way, commented that "Gee, the judge flew it better than I did". Of course it wasn't true, but it was great for my ego, and pointed out how great a guy Jim was.
Shortly before his untimely death, Jim had commented that he did not have a good picture of the "Spirit of America", so I had a 8 x 10 copy made for him of a slide that I had taken back in '69.
If I had accurate plans of the "Spirit" it would be on my short list of airplanes. to build.
