A little known fact is that the Aussie Nats Classic event was won multiple years by a guy using a Nobler with a Stalker 61...

He must not have got the word that a Nobler with it's thin airfoil won't turn  LL~

I am not sure Bob Geiseke ever got that memo...

Doug must not have been CC'd on the no turn memo as well.  I saw one of his thin wing Bears make some pretty nice turns up at Philly one time!

Let me see if I have this right.  I take the fuselage and tail from a .60 sized Super Kestrel, and mate it with the wing from a .40 sized Cascade and drop a Tom Lay ST 60 in the nose?  Then fly it on .015s if I keep it light and set the world on fire?  Yea, I can do that #^

That is pretty much it.  Watch the tail.  I made the tail match the wing on mine.  Used the 60 sized fuse.

Jimmy Welch can correct me, but I believe it is 600 squares with a 17.5" tail moment.  Wing is Time Machine 50 wing core cut to one bay longer span (eg, about 4" more total span) larger flaps and stab.  The first test flights were made using an LA this past week.  The DS 60 is going on it next.

It seems to me that the point is to have a controllable power system that has enough drive to push the plane through the maneuvers and enough reserve power to handle bad conditions. How you get there isn't the primary question. A big engine in a small plane is one way. A very light larger plane can work. Like a lot of things, it's the combination of air frame, power and setup. Paul Walker, in his electric setup, is flying a 750 square inch plane with the equivalent of a .90 in the nose. The motor is choked back and uses less than half the battery charge for a flight. The plane is obscenely light. It's the same concept; a superior, light airframe and great gobs of reserve power that is controllable.

That won't work... ;)

6 pitch props only work on Russian planes.

As for the capability of the flying lines we use, I did a informal pull test on some samples, taking a single sample with wrapped ends and here is what I found:

.012 Braided            Rated to 20 lbs max load          Line snapped at 30 lbs
.015 Braided            Rated to 30 lbs max load          Line snapped at 45 lbs
.018 Braided            Rated to 45 lbs max load          Line snapped at 45 lbs  (fly-by-wire brand)
.021 Braided            Rated to 60 lbs max load          Line snapped at 80 lbs
.024 Braided            Rated to 90 lbs max load          Line was making poping sounds at 105 lbs but never snapped
.022 Solids              Rated to 125 lbs max load         Line loaded to 122 lbs with no signs of any problems

Bottom line I am not surprised the .018 held Paul Walker's B-17, the line tension would have to be 90 lbs or more to even approach the maximum load of the .018 diameter braided lines.

I will simply say that the absolute best flying airplane I've ever flown was Bob Whitely's 48 OZ Formula S with the 9 OZ Unobtanium DS 60 in it.  Smallish prop with relatively high pitch and low rpm.  The airplane flies as though it were directly connected to your nervous system.  Whatever you think it should do it does.  It almost feels as though it "leads" you through the pattern.  It likely fits nicely into these latest thoughts.

After I flew it I told Bob it was "cheating" to fly the thing and he should give it to me...He, of course quickly took it away from me and put it safely back in his car!  No sense of humor!

I've been trying to figure out how to get someone interested in duplicating some of those engines but so far "no luck".  They are difficult to initially set up to run right!
