Flying Sites

I am real curious as to how many fly at INSURED sites....not schoolyards where the janitor allows it, or parking lots?
It takes a little work (you need an AMA club...) and the purchase of AMA site insurance. Total outlay is around $100.00, as I recall...

Me, at least when I'm at McIver park.  I assume that the NW Fireballs field is covered, which means I always do except when I'm dodging horse turds in the pasture behind my yard.

That "Site Insurance" merely covers the site owner(s) from liability issues due to your actions.  It doesn't cover YOUR liability.  Your liability is covered as secondary insurance through your AMA membership but primary coverage would be your homeowners or personal liability insurance.  The Site Owners insurance that can be purchased separately when your club renews its charter is primary insurance for the owner or named entity.

Our agreement with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources stipulates that we send proof of insurance every year for our site located in a state park which specifically names the Iowa DNR as the covered party.

No club or real flying sites anywhere near Panama City Florida so we fly when and where we can. This does not include school yards since they are all locked up.

Huntersville NC. site owned and operated by  Meck County Parks and Rec dept, we insure it thru AMA Chartered Club MCLS.  Park pass  $ 25 per year  . Daylight to dark use with Key 7 Days a week, What a deal

I (and other residents of Tucson AZ) fly at the Christopher Columbus Park CL Flying Site courtesy of the Tucson Parks and Recreation Department.   The Cholla Choppers MAC has enjoyed a long and excellent relationship with the Citty officials responsible for Parks and Recreation, and are wery thankful for their support.
Anyone who has attended VSC is aware of our facilities.  Three fully paved circles and Three grass circles make up one of the best sites around.
I would simply point out that this was accomplished by local support and the effort of the Cholla Choppers MAC without any help or support from the AMA...uhhhh except that the insurance through AMA did help to gain this support from the City.  
Muncie on the other hand is totally supported by membership money and is ...oh yeah 2500 miles away!
The great "promised" Western flying site never seemed to materialize after they got their way about the Muncie thing!
Well...I'm happy to stay right here with the occassional excursion to CA.
And the "Stinkin'..." AMA still gets my membership fees!

As Will Davis said Huntersville is insured through AMA. AMA has a set up for sites like Huntersville that has two different clubs using the field. MCLS and the RC club share the fees so we don't pay twice. The clubs using the field have to be named on the policy. If you have more than one club be sure both are listed.

Hey Rich,

We're a covered site at Flushing Meadows Corona Park. The cub is registered thee and we get the insurance from AMA. To be covered naturally you need to be an AMA Member.
Then for a contest we purchase the additional insurance to cver us and the NYC Parks and Recreation Department.

North Coast Controliners fly at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds in Berea, Ohio. AMA insurance is used. Rogue R/C flyers are our main problem and stupid uneducated Park Flyers. They fly off the acess road while people are driving. They dont even consider the hospital helo pad.

The NW skyraiders purchased site insurance for 5 sites this year. 3 Airports and 2 privately owned fields (for combat). In addition we purchased insurance for 1 two day sanctioned contest on a different airport that didn't have site insurance. Sounds like a lot but we are still struggling to find places to fly.
