We currently have a flying site dating back to the mid 80's that we are going to lose to a dog park (probably next fall). The good news is that we're getting a new facility that is supposed to have area for 3 to 4 circles and am considering a contest probably starting the 2008 season.
Trying to get an idea of how many would be interested in coming to a contest in our area. We're in the Springfield Mo, just north of Branson. There are many other attractions in the area as well. We would find a weekend that didn't conflict with an established contest.
So, how much support would we tentatively have for this contest?
Thanks,
James
Thanks for all the responses. A map will be no problem. It would be awesome to get another yearly contest going in this area.

Hi James,
I believe that you would have a few Tulsa Gluedobbers attend your contest.
Do you need some judging help?

Several of us got back into control line after being away from 15 to 50 years. A couple are practicing the beginners pattern every chance they get. I am just trying to bring my plane home in one or two pieces. I would bet that there would be at least a couple of competitors there from this area and a few more spectators. The last time I flew in Springfield I got a first or second in profile carrier. I also had dark hair then.

Most of the guys from here would show up. I know I would.

James,
You know I will be there and help whatever I can. Glad to hear that thinings
are going the right direction. Keith has wanted to do a fun fly so maybe
that would work too.
Things here are going pretty well. I am getting anxious to get home and
start building.
Take care and keep the wind to your back.

A couple of Rednecks from wichita KS will probably make it. That is if you can provide a good map on how to get there.

We'll probably need all the help we can get, I've never put a contest on before (but like we said in the Army, charge on). I should know more as far as the new site come late spring or summer.
Thanks,
James

Maybe after you get squared away you could have a scheduled "fun fly" , perhaps toward fall.
Remember it is always a fun fly when I fly. Fun for the spectators anyway. I have heard people say " I have seen thousands of flights and I never saw anyone crash that way". One stunt that is a real crowd pleaser is the one I call "The waivering wingover". You may have seen other people do something similar, but I start waivering back and forth whether to pull out inverted or upright right after I pull it up. Sometimes I can get in as many 8 waivers on my way in to the ground.

Fun fly or contest you can count on me to be there. Ask Gary and Milo Wallace who are still flying F2C. I have flown carrier and pitted entries in the racing events when the site was next to a shopping center. I was a lot leaner then. DOC Holliday

As has been noted, possibly a fun fly to start with and then a small contest to get into the swing... Keep it simple to start with. Put me on the mailing list for a contest notice.
If the timing works out, I would love to come!! Keep us posted!!
Thanks
Jim ;D
