I have been researching this stuff since I saw these videos this morning. It looks doable but it would not be easy and I imagine that it is pretty heavy compared to traditional paint methods. It looks awesome though.

The first video is cool. It is a real product. It looks rather doable, .003 in thick on top of primer (so yes, fairly heavy like enamels), then the decorative paint job. It appears to require 18v ac power. Night time performances anybody?
