Flying Circles at Owensboro KY Airport
« on: September 06, 2007, 01:44:16 PM »
Friends,

I have viewed these circles looking for a location for the Western Kentucky Southern Illinois Stunt Champs back over 16 or 17 years ago.  Housing in close proximity to the circles precluded me from asking permission to host the WKSI on this site.  I really appreciate the Lafayette Esquadrille Model Airplane Club of St. Louis for hosting the event for about a dozen years until we could get the Paducah site up and running.

Hi Allen,  looking at the picture,  if that is an active airport I doubt that the precision aerobatic planes with mufflers would bother them.  Maybe you could have a demo after visiting the local neighbors to get permission to do a demo.   After the demo then visit the neighbors again and see if there really is any complaints.  Of course you could do like the Omaha club and let neighbors know that flying only would be done during certain hours.  Wichita has housing on the other side of the road from their field.  So far so good.  Have fun,  DOC Holliday

Hi Allen,
Way back in about 1961-64 my Dad flew for Green Construction of Indiana. Bob Green ran a successful concrete company building highways in Ill, Ind, Ken, Tenn, and he owned the Executive Inn's at Owensboro and Vincennes. He also had the Howard 500 (looks like a Lockheed Ventura) that Dad flew for him registered in Owensboro, and they would periodically operate the airplane from that airport.
Cool.
Chris...

The houses looked pretty close in person.  A test afternoon might be in the works, but it is a long way to drive to practice when I have a grass circle within 5 minutes and two grass circles within a 35 minute drive.
