NI STARTER
« on: June 04, 2020, 07:08:06 AM »
On the way to the field today I looked down by the shifter and saw my Ni-Starter.  The question in my mind was "I wonder if it is charged up enough?"  It would be really nice if McDaniels would make something that looked like a phone charger that would charge your glow driver.  I could make something that would work with a lot of monkey motion but  a simple plug in with a charge cord would be so nice.

Richard

this is the glow starter I use these days.
It can be charged at home or in the car using a USB cigarette lighter adapter.

Some power panels have a glow plug-like male plug for which you can attach your Ny-starter and from which your charged engine starter battery will charge your glow plug igniter! My power support panel by Tower has such an attachment. This should get you started at the field, then go home and charge it up! Lately I try to mentally remember how often I've been flying and just recharge my ny-starter after about 6 flying sessions! In addition  if my memory fails, which is not unusual , I have tow extra igniters in my box just for insurance!

Are there two threads on this....maybe I did not save properly

any way....why not use the supplied charger in the truck...OH! no inverter DC to AC you say...ok cool

BTW an on board inverter has a lot of uses...low wattage ones are very inexpensive....in fact the red n black copper 10 or 8 Gage wire is the biggest cost......in last 3 new vehicles inverters were standard

Ni-starters are easily enough charged at home--that is, if you plan ahead just a little.

My McDaniels unit came with a wall-wart.  Plug it in the night before, and it's ready to go next day.
