Title: Flite Streak Trainer line length/dia
Post by: Jim Treace on November 10, 2008, 07:14:29 PM
We just finished up a Flite Streak Trainer. Power is K&B .19. What line length/dia. would be best on this trainer. The grand kids (girls 7, 10), want to solo this Thanksgiving.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would think .015 dia. x 52' length, kinda standard for "A" class engines like .15, or .19.  Others more qualified than I should have suggestions for you too.

Whilst integrating my new knee, I flew my Guillow # 2 trainer with McCoy 19 and 9 x 4 white Tornado prop.  It screwed me into the ground on 52 ft 012 lines.  So I flew it on 64 ft 015's and had no problem.  One piece of advice.  Use a small tank and do not let your trainees get dizzy.

52 is probably a little short.  I have one with a BB Fox 15 that runs pretty strong with an 8/4.  And a little fast for my little guy.  We ended up with some 58 or 60 foot .015s and a small Hot Rock.

I saw where tank size was mentioned.  We went from about 10 full laps to about 60 laps with a couple of the old standard vent Vecos.  Need to find something in between.

And, if anybody is interested, I replaced the tail feathers with 1/8 lite ply, and covered the entire fuse with 1/64 ply.  So far, bullet proof.  They tend to be nose heavy anyway (especially with the BB Fox), and so I figured I could manage the weight out back.  A good little trainer.
