Flite Streak 15 info´s
« on: February 10, 2010, 01:37:40 PM »
Hi to all.
A friend told me that one of the best sport models for 15´s is the Flite Streak Jr for 15´s.
I got interest in this design, since I have an Enya 15 to put on it.
So, I´m trying to get some more info´s on this plane, if is really a good flier etc.
Also will be good to heard experiences from buddies that have or had this plane
Thanks in advance by the help

Carlo  :)

Carlo,

There are much better models for a .15 out there.

I'd check John Miller's Lil' Elle and Igor Burger Tiny, these are indeed precision stunters

Hi Carlo,

Since you specifically stated a *Sport Model*, I believe you would really like the Flite Streak Jr.  The Enya would be fine, just balance the model properly, and it will do the entire stunt pattern.  It flies much like the full size Flite Streak.  I had one many years ago (over 40 years ago! LOL!!), and it was a blast to fly.  I would suggest making sure the elevator only has about 20* up and 20* down movement.  Too much elevator travel and it will stall on turns.

Good luck with one!

Fabulous fun. I'm on my third in the last few years. This one has an FP15 that I fly rung out howling. Not necessary to fly it that fast. It does all the pattern tricks. Many of them in half the space specified. I've been flying it on 52' lines. Thought they were .012s, turned out to be 008s. Use .012s. The .008s frayed and failed. Somehow the lines came apart during the landing. No crash. This is a Brodak Streak, not a Flite Streak. A better choice IMHO. The aerodynamics are the same: airfoil, moments, and so forth. But the wing construction is conventional, no dagger pointed ribs. Easier to true-up. An Enya 15 should work well. Similar weight. If possible run it without a muffler, otherwise get a light weight tongue muffler. The FP15 on mine has a tongue muffler. Still needs about 1/2ounce in the tail to get the cg right. You may prefer to start out flying this plane a bit nose heavy. CG location makes a vast difference in sensitivity at the handle.

For a simple sport plane the Jr Flight Streak is great!

This next statement may cause gun fire from my neighbors in Texas.

The Jr Flight Streak is much better flier than the Ringmaster Jr.

Now ducking

If I understand correctly, when Top Flite owned rights to the Flite Streak Jr. GMA designed the Junior Lightnin' Streak for Brodak. It was basically a FS Jr. with a different tail. The Brodak FS Junior uses a construction method that GMA originally used (split leading edge).

I have not built the new one but I have built several Top Flite versions. Most were powered by OS Max .15's (without muffler) which were an excellent match. Of course if you need a muffler and add weight to balance, you will lose a little performance, but it will still be a fun ship. An Enya .15 should work well. Go for it.

I've got a much abused, epoxy covered, patched up Jr. FS that is at least 15 years old. Covered with some shrink poly weave material ( polyspan?), I has been flown by a bunch of kids, adult newbie, and beginner / basic fliers. Will do all the usual training stuff and come back after a crash.  Fuse / tail has broken off multiple times - glued back on.

Used to have a Fox .15 and flew pretty good, but added repair weight behind the wing made it underpowered and a bit tail heavy. That made it kinda hairy to fly, now it's got an OS FP .10  R/C with the carb wired open. The heavier engine / muffler helped balance it. Run fairly fast, it flies pretty mach as good as ever- but faster.

I'd build another but this one won't die.

An excellent choice the Flight Streak Jnr.  I had one with a Thunder Tiger .15, 7x4 or 8x4 prop 52 ft lines. Had it for at least 10 years.  The only thing I can think of that is better - but very similar - is the Peacemaker. Slightly bigger wingspan and rounded in all the places where the FS  is pointy.

I built a Sig Akromaster with an OS LA .15 and muffler on 55' .012 lines for my two grandchildren to learn to fly on. It is an excellent airplane, easy to build and fly. Several of our club members have flown it and all enjoy flying it. It will do the complete pattern ( not with me flying it though) and several have purchased their own kit to build.
Both the kids soloed the first day flying it.

I built a Jr Flite Streak from the Brodak kit and powered it with a TD 09.  I extended the nose a little so the tank I wanted to use would fit. It ended up balanced maybe 3/8 in front of where the plans say.  I used the Cox 7 x 3.5 prop and flew on Champion 10% nitro, 20% oil fuel. Started out of 55 ft eye to eye 012 lines and was getting 3.8 seconds laps; too fast for me to fly a good stunt pattern.  Went to 57 ft lines and it was still fast, but I could fly it, rather than just herd it around.  It even won Advanced Class for me at a local contest.  I eventually retired it. Others who flew it remarked on how smooth it was.  The 20 degree either way elevator movement cited above is good advice.

The FS Jr is only 230 sq.in and really needs a light engine (eg the Fox 15 or OS Max 15 that others have mentioned here; it also works well with a good .09), so an important consideration is 'which Enya 15 do you have?'  The old 15-II is nice and light; the 15-III is a touch heavier but still pretty good.  The current SS15S and 15-V are about 160g before you even bolt on a muffler.  I flew my FS Jr with an SS15 on it - it had heaps of power, but needed a lot of lead on the tail to make it balance, which then made it too heavy to turn as well as it should.  It was still entertaining to fly, but didn't really fly like a Flitestreak ought to.  I've since flown it with a 15-II and 15-III, which are less powerful but much better suited to the model.

Cheers
Steve

As already mentioned by Warren, a Peacemaker is a better choice than the Junior F Streak. A little more surface area makes all the difference. An Enya .15 would be perfect for this ship. The Enya is a heavier motor than most, but I use an Oliver Tiger in mine at 6.5 ounces without a muffler! So an Enya plus muffler will be near perfect balance. I don't like adding weight to a plane. I build heavy enough!

Andrew.

Hi Steve & Andrew, thanks by your replies.
My Enya 15 is a 15 III, and it is in good shape.
About the Peacemaker, I know that is also an excellent plane !
Thanks

Carlo
