flight countdown timer/watch brand?
« on: August 11, 2022, 04:37:45 PM »
Guys,
Quick question about what is a good brand and size for a flight countdown timer/watch? I have been looking online and the IRONMAN Classic 30 Oversized 38 - 44mm seems to fit the bill to do the countdown and be quickly read while flying. What ones do you use?

Best,  DennisT

I use one of these:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/255666553175?hash=item3b86ea0157:g:g~QAAOSwUxli2d2i

I think I am on my 3rd or 4th one by now, when they go bad I just buy another used on on ebay.

Newer versions don't seem to have the correct type of display in each of the modes, or the digits are tiny.

I use timer mode to count down combat matches, and regular stopwatch mode to count up for F2B.

I used to use one of these on a strap around my neck.  It worked well, but now my timer on the plane is sufficient warning.  Audible count down timer by Sper Scientific

Fitbit Charge 5 is a bit pricier but a lot more useful.

Did you see my stopwatches for Android?

If you set it properly, it will beep you lap (or 2 or 4) before motor stop, so you will see where you are going to land (or you can gain altitude to modify it by longer glide)

I do a loop to stop the motor. It gives a burst of speed afterwards, just like an acoustic powerplant.

IF anybody wants a regular stopwatch, this one is about as good as you can get. Paul Walker has endorsed the "feel" of the buttons as being superior to most.

First time I bought (two), they came from a chain company that is now defunct. They have multiple "modes", and I think one is a "countdown". One went bad after many years, I looked online for more of the same, and ordered before I realized that the dealer was in Indonesia. I was very relieved when the watches appeared without any undue damage to my credit card...before PayPal even existed, I think. Call me paranoid if you wish. This link is an eBay ad, and it says the watches come from Singapore. Proceed at your own risk.  y1 Steve

I don't know if mine is a "Secko" or not, but it looks exactly like that and was under $100 back (way back) when I was flying competition gliders.

I seem to recall they were about $100 when I got mine. Very popular with glider guiders :)

Hello Igor Your timer looks very practical even for non electric flyers. I did wonder if the timer could be keyed to the model to start it or stop it remotely ? I presume this would be legal under the current F2b rules that allow 2.4ghz control for on/off function.

Regards Gerald

No, I cannot. May be later. I have WIFI cut off, but I have specific program for that. I thought I not need stopwatches if I use cut off  8)

I do not think I need cut off for stunt, but we have local cathegory for semiscales and kids use it for motor controll as it have several other functions, not only cut off, for exmpale it allows power controll just by tilting handy or pressing button on display by left hand.

Guys,
I finally found a countdown timer that has a large display, audible alarm and fits your hand nicely. It is by EPIC SPORTS a Robic model SC-522, $10.99, $2.99 shipping. It has a neck strap and for me allows me to see the time left for the flight. This is handy for short test flights with electric's as you can set the flight time. I know you could use the stopwatch and do the count up, but for me I like to see what is left. Works well.

Best,    DennisT

Some of the combat guys (including me) use this one. Very easy to set-up for count-up from 0 or count down from a set number to 0.
