"Kingman, Barstow ,San Bernadino"
A tribute to Bobby Troupe who wrote it, and Bobby Darren, who sang "Route 66"

Just east of Flagstaff is Winslow. That's a good place to "stand on a corner" EAGLES I have met Randy Meisner several times.

Well, I'm not much of a singer so I'll deviate off of Route 66 and recommend a short 150 mile drive south to Phoenix to fly, lotsa fliers there. Heading northeast there is some flying activity in Farmington, 'bout 300 miles away through the great Navajo Nation. Or, you could drive from Flag to Gallup NM (186 miles), meet with me and we can head up to Farmington. Either way, enjoy your visit. 8)

Pete,
You are a fibber!
You said that you would "deviate" from Route 66. Gallup NM , is in the song!

Tom, you got that right, Gallup is one of the more distinctive towns along the all impressive Route 66. However, you will have to "deviate" off of Route 66 onto Hwy 17 to get from Flagstaff to Phoenix. FWIW my favorite version of the Route 66 song is done by "Asleep at the Wheel" - good 'ol Texas Swing! 8)

Pete I will be in Gallup for two nights 15-16 but I will be over at Canyon de chelly on the 15th. I was through Farmington last year in June. I think I have been in just about every town between Phoenix and Salt Lake City. Anyone ever been to Bagdad Arizona? I have back in 1975.

I always thought that Winslow was east of Flagstaff????????

Lamont Cranston Band does a great rendition of route 66. I think Lamont Cranston was the "Shadow" on the radio in the early 50's

Lamont Cranston was fictional, so I Guess Lamont Cranston's Band might or not be fictional.... "Only the Shadow Knows".

Ed: We'll have to get together when you are in Gallup, maybe even take a run up to Farmington and do some flying, weather and time permitting. Got extra planes that need excercise. I'll PM you to work out the details. 8)

I grew up a half mile off Route 66, in OKC.

Me, I grew up one block north of Route 66 in Glendora Ca. It is still called Alosta Ave there.

known as 39th St. in Bethany OK, a NW OKC suburb. I spent the first 21 years of my life around 36th St. \

Pete Thanks for the nice email and the offer.
I just noticed that the Route 66 car club in Fladstaff is having the once a year big car show the week we are there. I am sure we will get a lot of vintage Route 66 pictures and I will post a link to them when I get back, and I will stop in Winona.
