Fixing my Stunthanger slow connection =)

I too have noticed a slow down on my Stunthanger connection from my business connection. If I use a RR connection is seems a little better.
It would not load any threads that contains pictures. This has only gone on for a week or so, maybe the same time citywx.com went down??? Not a problem cause I can always get to a computer that is just on a RR connection. Figured our firewall was part of the problem. We do not have the fastest internet connection at work.

Anyway I figured I would dump IE and give FireFox a try. Propbuster (aka Ryan) raves about Firefox.
So I loaded up Firefox and BAMM!!! It seems to load threads with pictures. It will now load the thread but still takes time to load all the pics.
I do see something with FF that I did not notice with IE. Is shows that it is still trying to go out and load citywx.com. Even tho Sparky removed it from our profiles, there is still a hook some place and I think this might be causing users of IE to have slow response times.

Give Firefox and try and see if it helps those with slow response.

Have had Firefox and IE both on this machine for about a year.  Used Firefox an awful lot for a while and it can be faster, but I've come to prefer IE in general.  It seems to be a more thorough program.  Have had a few instances were I couldn't access a site through one browser but the other could.  I'm not sure what my wife and daughter (myspace addicts) do,  but my wife once got stuff so out of whack that firefox wouldn't work at all.  My daughter manages to lock the machine up so bad that we have to shut down the power and start over to get it going again.  They insist that it's not anything that they do.  I think it may have something to do with the places they visit.  ??  We only have a 28.8 connection speed.  The phone company refuses to sell me internet because of line and switch conditions in our neighborhood.  That limits us to third party dial-up.  A friend across town who uses the same phone company has a two dsl connections.

I just loaded Firefox.  Slow forum connection cured.

My oldest got a CEAT degree.  When I got my new computer he loaded Firefox for a browser and Thunderbird for email.  He updated them for me last week.  I have never had the problems that so many were talking about, and I didn't know why!   Now I understand that Firefox doesn't have the same problems as Internet Exploder, and I see why I wasn't having the problems.

I am guessing that IE has a longer timeout before it begins to display than FireFox. I notice that the browser on my Mac (Safari) shows the posts pretty quick, but it does still complain that the weather stuff site is not responding.

This is what my error logger shows. The last 4 entries didn't load, but the first 4 did, which is why I don't notice anything "wrong". If your browser waits until everything loads, or for the request to timeout, you would interpret StuntHangar as having problems!
 I see my Zip code there (60187) ---and who lives in Mount Pleasant Texas??

All I did to eliminate my slow loading, was delete the zip code from my profile.

I'm sure the other location reference (ICAO?) would also cause the problem, since the weather site went down.

 I wasn't having any speed issue's, but I just now deleted the zip code, noticable speed increase.

I too just deleted my zip code in my profile. I will test it out on Monday to see if that helps the work computer. At home I do not have much of an issue.
I did notice that it still trys to load stuff from city.wx even after I deleted my zip code.

I would say Sparky (or some admin) needs to do some stuff behind the magic curtain???

You can block pop-ups selectively, so if something very slow is being loaded
as a pop-up, you might fix that in Firefox pretty easily.

I switched from Mozilla to Firefox a couple of years ago, and it is definitely sleeker.
Also, I like the multiple tabbed viewing windows feature.

Not without its warts, but I recommend Firefox.

The companion newsgroup reader Thunderbird, on the other hand, I finally
just dumped because it seemed to get very slow, freezing up and becoming
unresponsive. I now use Outlook Express for newsgroups, and I have to say
it is quite snappy, amazingly so for a Mickey Microsoft program.

I've been using Mozilla Firefox from back when it was Firebird. About version .035. But then, I use Linux so Firefox or Opera were the primary browsers. Before that I used Netscape. Again, it was the browser of choice for Linux just as Firefox is now. I can run IE through Crossover and do that occasionally for certain sites that are IE dependent, but only occasionally.

Well, Mac are really Linux underneath now with the Mac toolbox on top. Ever since Apple started using Darwin as the kernel. Probably why I feel at home on a Mac now.

Stunthanger loads fine for me.

Actually the Mac is a version of BSD UNIX, not Linux. But it is attached to to same family tree.

I'm the guy guilty of being from Mount Pleasant, Tx.  Can't really recall why, but I entered a city name instead of a zip code.  Although it never seemed to cause problems for me,  I just removed it for the same reason that you guys are removing zip codes.  I do think its nice to know were people are from.

So do I Wayne, and the weather site was the only way to check forum members locations, when they didn't enter their city, but did enter a zip code.

Some of the better known pilots on these forums use their full names and locations. Surely the little known bench fliers like me, should have nothing to fear by providing that info? 

Why all the paranoia about using real names, and letting others know where you fly?

My understanding is that it's based on Darwin which is a base GNU kernel. Much as most Linux distros are. Could be wrong, I guess, but that's what it says on their web site. BSD is also based on a GNU/Linux kernel, but a different branch than distros like RedHat or Ubuntu.

But, I suppose it doesn't much matter in the end. They are all basically different flavors of Unix.
