Fixed Fazer plans and dimensions
« on: July 06, 2020, 06:51:44 PM »
Some of you had questions about the changes I made to the Sig Fazer kit to get to my "Fixed Fazer".

I managed to find the Fazer plans I marked up.  For those of you who have the kit, compare your plans to the mark-up plans and the dimensions below and that should give you a pretty good idea of what needs to change (everything!!)  Unfortunately, I did not mark up the wing on these plans, but I kept about the same span of 48 inches and added nicely shaped tips to give about a 54 inch span.

Note multiple areas of "white out"..... ;D

In the picture of the plans with a ruler set on the front of the nose ring, here are the dimensions:
- to wing L.E. = 9.5"
- to wing T.E. = 19.25"
- to flap T.E. = 22.5"
- to stab L.E. = 32.25" (yes, the plans with ruler differ, but this is the correct dimension)
- to stab T.E. = 35.25"
- to elev T.E. = 38.25"
- to tail end = 39"

Stab span = 24"
stab chord at tip = 2"
elev chord at tip = 2"
fin height at rudder hingeline = 6" (see note, below)
C/L of wing is 1/2" below C/L of motor mounts
C/L of stab is 3/4" above C/L of engine mounts

Wing and flaps are tapered, I hadn't marked down and don't recall the tip chord dimensions.  Just use what is reasonable.

Note on elevator: the Fixed Fazer started out with a 6" tall rudder, but then one day John decided he didn't want to kneel down to launch the plane and instead pinched the rudder.  He pinched it too hard!  So when I later had an accident and was making repairs, I amputated the top 1 inch of John's handi-work....

Scott,

Do the plans show a solid or hollow fuse?  The wreck looks hollow.

I think I know know why it is called the "Fixed Fazer."  That's because you fixed the original design to make it more to your liking, correct?

thanks,

Peter

It was so long ago I don't recall if it was solid or hollow.  I think if I were to build one again, it would be hollow.

Bingo on the name!!
