First Flint Contest of the year today
« on: April 22, 2006, 07:23:59 PM »
We flew our first Flint, Mich. contest today. This is our second year of monthly contests.
It's getting to be quite a good deal. Sort of like a family reunion.

Frank, I wish I could have been there. Looks like a good turnout. I'll be at the next one for sure....

Hong Kong Buffet afterwards?

Your batteries hold up all right?

I'd hoped to see you there Greg. You didn't miss much though. All we did was mingle and hang out with each other. We had a lot of catching up to do since the last time so there were lots of stories and laughs. And we did a lot of flying. We flew expert first and after we were done with that the wind picked up considerably and the advanced, intermediate and beginners had to battle through the wind. Bob Branch crashed his ARF Pathfinder. His was the only crash. John Paris and Curt Nixon did most of the judging.
My electric Smoothie gave me a pretty good first round. But the second battery just didn't have the juice for the second run and it got blown out of the clover. Also it was the first time I flew it on concrete and the wheels made the airplane crab and bounce on landings. So I'll be putting different wheels on it.
Battery #2 is my biggest concern. I think for some reason it isn't charging as good as #1. I may have to buy a new one.

Rats on the battery charge condition Frank. I dont pretend to know what the newer batteries require for maintenance. To have such a short life from a battery is not fun. Maybe when they become more affordable, i'll think about quiet power, but for now, I'm just watching. You be the trail blazer.

But what of the more important question, the buffet?  (insert smily face for "yummie")

Everyone dashed off and the buffet did not happen. See how bad things get when you're not there?

It was alot of fun:

Franks Smoothie was quite impressive even tho it got blown around in the wind during the second flight.

Paul Smith also judged alot--and kept the whole thing on track.

Thanks to all involved--great time.

It just a little too early to eat dinner.

Curt
