Well its ready to fly but the weather has a different idea. St.Louis is getting snow right now as I type and set for the biggest winter Strom in years. Enough about the weather.
The airplane came out very nice. I did not have to add or subtract weight for balance. How ever I did sacrifice a once and a half for the extra finish I got. But I think it's worth it.
Now its time to clean this mess up and start a new project. I have enough time to build a couple more before the next NATS.
-
that is phenominal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Man that's sweet AP^ #^ Now Sparky have you ever done one with a full weathering finish? Complete with patched bullit holes and such? Maybe pick one of an actual plane and pilot complete with it's history and what theater it fought in. Now that would be sweet! Just a thought.

Bob,
Very nice job! What did the weight come out too? I do like the way you dealt with the AMA numbers.
-
Only a half ounce lighter than number 2. I sure was hoping for more but it wasn't in the cards.
-
After the remark about the numbers, I had to go back and take another look. It looks terrific. If it flies as well as it looks, you should have the Walker sitting on your mantel. DOC Holliday

I would love to see you show up to one of the meets this coming year out hear at Mavis Henson field in Woodland CA. You could travel around the country barnstorming different contests. Kind of like the 70's when Funny cars would match race to make extra money . Oh well it was a thought. That T-Bolt looks Great!
-
Robert,
Fantastic job!
Hope to see it someday.

Looks super nice Bob. Can I have it?
I'll trade you my Banshee for it. :)!
-
Outstanding Sparky...if you want I'll do the maiden for you ;D
Phil
-
Bob,
How much did #2 weigh?
-
Too much! But it flew good.
-
Fantastic job, what a beautiful airplane. You should be very proud.
I've been waiting to introduce myself, I guess now is as good a time as ever. I've just joined the stunthanger membership and really have enjoyed reading through some of the threads. You guys are a lot of fun.
Myself: Retired, 60, former C/L stunt flyer from the 70's, 80's and early 90's. Used to fly with the NE Philly guys before they became the Philly Flyers, starting out back in the 70's. Went to a lot of the local contests back in the day....Edison, Lincoln Park, can't remember the names of the others, but there were quite a few. Quit flying after attending the Nats in 1990. Too many family responsibilites with two young sons. Didn't have the time to build or practice.
Learned to fly R/C after I retired, but never lost my love for C/L and recently purchased a Brodak Cardinal ARF for one of my trusty old ST 46's. Have been having fun with it lately and starting to get that old feeling back again. I also love to play golf, and I have a drag car that I race on the weekends. Yes, retirement is sweet.
Anyway, two thumbs up on the web site, it's a pleasure. I'll try not to lurk, but I don't have much pertinent information to help out with since I've been out of it for so long. There are some interesting crossover things that pertain to both C/L and R/C, I may interject some comments here and there if I think I can help someone, or maybe just give a rookie's viewpoint on something. For example, I fly a lot of 4 stroke R/C stuff, mainly Saitos. I have a 72, an 82 and a 100 in various planes. I fly a style referred to as 3D, which is a lot of high alpha stuff, hanging the plane on the prop, hovering, that kind of stuff. Tons of fun, especially for this old man.
Anyway, nice to meet you guys.
Vince

Well Vince glad to see you found your way home. Welcome!

Robert;
That is truly an awesome achievment. In the threads you made it look like a walk in the park. Prey tell where did you learn to do the ink lines?

Bill I am a self taught everything! Motorcycles,Computers,Spanish, Airplanes. I just asked allot of dumb questions as a kid and sometimes still do.

that is one pretty plane and man you must have a ton of time in it approximately how many hours ? if some one was to give me a plane like that, because there is no way that i have them skills , all thumbs i would be afraid to fly it and probably cry if any thing happened to it. so about how many hours?
thank you

Billy Werwage says about 400 hrs per plane. I don't think it takes me that long so I will say 250.
-
Bob,
Superb job, as usual. Always impressed with not only the quality of your work, but also the rate that you build. If you could only 'bottle that up and sell it', I would take a case.
Would you explain how you mask the narrow (eighth inch) black stripes adjacent to the yellow stripes?
Thanks in advance.
Warren Wagner
-
Warren it's called back masking. Not hard to do at all. First tape the finished size of the stripes including the pinstripe. Then paint the whole thing the color of the pinstripe. After it drys tape the pinstripe off 1/8 in this case. Just butt the tape up to the outside of the outer stripe. Make sure you have no gaps between the inner and outer stripe. I re-tape with a second piece to make sure. Then spray the inner color. Just as it sets up (timing is important here) pull all the tape off and wallah you have a yellow stripe with a black pinstripe around it. No Big deal.

Robert,
Great Job, that ought to make Billy a little jealous!
Bet it flys great with the .75 too..
Jim Pollock :o
-
Here is the last of the indoor shots after rubbing it out. When the sun comes out I will take some more.
-
Bob,
It looks spectacular from every angle.
Question about the color of your ink lines, which are superb. At first glance, they appear to be black, but I noticed in the third photo where an ink line crosses both black and white checkers, that the line is still visible over the black regions, so of course the ink is not black.
What color ink lines did you use? I assume they must be a dark grey.
Cheers.

Robert,
Could you please stop these posts?
It is all very disheartening seeing what you do - how can anyone (i.e. Me!) hope to make anything approaching this?
It's all a bit of af a p*** off!
Great work though!!!!!!!!!! If only..............
Cheers

Just ask questions and I'll answerer them. Practice makes perfect! Also remember I have built hundreds of these planes.

Now that's cool...the old engineer's trick: "If you can't fix it, feature it." If you can't hide it, use it. Very nice.

Listen carefully, Commander-In- Chief! You have to do something to those bare wire LG. Believe me, you HAVE to do something to those. Vacuform a set of the Robart LG covers or SOMETHING!

Bob,
WOW!
If I could build and finish models as beautifully as you do, I probably wouldn't. :(
I'd be terribly afraid to fly anything that gorgeous! HB~>
Congratulations on an outstanding airplane! j1

What a grand model, Robert!
I admire your work, you are a true master craftsman.

Unfortunately, I would really hate to see that plane NOT get 20 points at appearance judging. Lack of LG detail after all the other stuff will be a killer when it's judged. After seeing all the detail, it looks "unfinished"! If it didn't look so OUTSTANDING I would agree, don't bother, but I know he has a vacuform machine, and to vacuform a set of Robart gear covers and finish them *MIGHT* add a tenth of an ounce. I'm just going on the visual impact of a great, no I should say magnificent, building and finishing job, I hate to see what could (and WILL) be a potential problem. There is way too much detail added to NOT do the LG. Remember, you heard it here............

I could never figure out why people are ashamed of their names.. since I used to be a GSCBr, I would love to know who you are... and don't forget that your real name would make you eligible for the monthly drawing.
Robert,
The '47 is beautiful! Now that we have got you adding the cockpit details.. I guess next is is Bill's wish for the Landing Gear! But.. it still worth 20 points!

At the risk on increasing your hat size, that is a very nice effort, Robert. I think it's the best looking one of the fleet. Hope it does well for you.
