Let the dope gas out for a couple of weeks and use two part  PPG Clear for automobiles.   Have a good mask if spraying it.   H^^

Not even finished and he putting kill marks on it. VD~  I have had Ringmasters and Flite Streaks, but none as good as these planes.  Won my first trophy flying a Ringmaster in a special club meet.  Had a Flite Streak for combat and it never saw a match.   D>K

The kill marks on the side are cute and all, but lets get real. There hasn't ever been a Ringmaster built that will out turn a 'Streak. To argue that point would just be an exercise in belligerence. S?P

No one IS arguing that point. They have a specific reason for being there. It's all part of the game between two people. It started at Brodaks in 2007 and will end this year. No more no less. Also  you might want to restate the comment to rear "S1 Ringmaster ever been built." I can show you a few Ringmasters being built that will turn.

Call them anything you like Walt, they will have the desired effect.  VD~ VD~

Pix will follow soon of it finished, life got in the way again and I just couldn't get back to it and do it any justice. Also waiting for masks. No rush buddy just lettin them know where it is at right now. Also there is the wing being done for Jetbill it is half balsa with the center section and spar fron 7075 T3. Gotta get that to him so the other thing can be built. I'm workin on them all slow but sure.  HB~>

This a great post. Dope problems (on going) ringmaster versus flitestreak Plus the size of the giant ringmaster. I look forward to seeing the giants at Brodaks this coming year. About the RM/FS thing.
I think we all know that the FS ended the era of the RM. But the RM remains as the best known and most realistic model of the two. The FS came along and Rm's where now out of the combat picture gut they remained good sport planes for more years than I know. Now strictly for the good memories we all have or want too have a RM. Don't see any FS organizations around.

Dope finishing has become a real nightmare. It was not such a problem in the day. I have found that over thinning dope is a real source of trouble. Fast drying is bad news. Also found that retarder doesn't help that much. I believe the newer refinements in the products has made dope a big problem. I wish Aero Gloss (old formula) was still produced.

HI Chuck,

I think the EPA regulations (this ain't "political" LOL!!) as to VOC content and such have really messed with the "lacquer type" paints over the years.  We can't even buy acrylic lacquer in bulk in NC anymore.

The changes in formulations (I don't know exactly what or when in dope products) has affected the products, though, that part I know.  It does seem more critical now as to thinning ratios, and other factors which cause drying times to be affected.  The only good thing (at least in my case) has been using the 3608S thinner all along.  It does give me a constant in these processes.  I know many will say it (using 3608S) isn't a good idea, but then others swear by it.  Windy always made some very pretty planes using it.  S?P

Fortunately, things haven't gone so bad as for me to stop using my procedure as to finishing my "good" planes.

Looking forward to King Orange, maybe we will see each other there.

H^^Hello Bill, I am looking forward to the KOI and seeing you there. I am hoping that old man winter gets it out of his system and we get the nice warm weather we deserve for the KOI.

Now about them Flite Streaks. They have short little noses, fat wings, and long small tails. They are fast to. They are not very tough.

Now about them Ringmasters. They have a longer nose, thinner wings, a very short tail. They can go fast if you want them to. They are tough.

They are both part of our Heritage. I think a good comparison for the two is the B-17 and the B-24.
The argument will never end and neither will this one. Oh, I am a Ringmaster man.

I'd go for "Streakmaster". Really - 'sounds like fun!

'been thinking about building a new fuselage, and maybe tail, for my P-Force, rather than gluing the fuselage back together. 'tis the season!

In all the argumens of the Ringmaster vs the Flite Streak, I have decided to come up with a compromise. I am installing a Flite Streak wing in a Ringmaster fuselage. I think I will call it the Ring Streak or Streak Master. Whaddayathink??? LL~

Ringmasters and Flite Streak either one flies as well as the pilot.  Years ago during a demo at Washburn Football Field I was challenged to a combat match.  They wouldn't fly against my Orbit Ace with a Fox Combat Special on it.  So I flew my new Ringmaster, the second version with sheeted leading edge.  First time I had ever used a clunk tank.  The old Fox 35 Stunt would run kind of rich until you forced it thru a loop.  Then it would lean out.  I think I went five or six matches with no losses.  They were even covering their wings with news paper to challange me again.  Maybe Jim Lee will remember that day. HI Chuck,

I don't want to hi jack the thread, but I hope you will see this here.  My wife is having back surgery on Jan. 11.  Just found it out Wednesday.  That rules out KOI this year.  My son, Aaron, might possibly still come down.  Y'all have fun!
