Yes, I do know what it is, I was going to kit it with the sheet wing of the original but no-one was interested.  Mine is about this far along too.  I'm going to let people guess for awhile but I will throw in a hint;  Designed and kitted by Carl Goldberg.

You guys are WAY off - not even close.   LL~  LL~

Look at that aspect ratio - nothing like a Shoestring!  n1  n1

The hint I left is plain as day.

Congrats to Steve and Billy G.  #^  #^

It's a twice size Muciano Bullet. Since the Bullet is my favorite hollow log, I decided to enlarge it for the new Brodak 15.

Should be fun. The attached photo shows my standard size Bullet. The big one will carry the same color scheme.

Bob, you sure come up with some different planes.   They look great.  How do you like the Brodak .15?   H^^

Thanks for the compliments!
John E: The Brodak 15 is a great engine. I wrote an article on it in CL world.
I put it on my Scared Kitten as a repelcement for a K&B 29 and it flew very well at around 24 ounces RTF.
The Big Bullet airframe as shown weighs around 8.1 ounces.
It's pretty much standard construction except for the radial RC type engine mount which I now use in all my planes.

Dennis: as soon as I acquire a decent CAD package, I will make a set of precision plans.
If the aircraft is a success, I will suggest to John that we make a kit of it.

Bob Z.

The oficial name for the bird will be Pallottola.

Pallottola was my second guess.  It's Italian for "model plane made from balsa pallet boards". LL~ With the "hint", I didn't think that would be it.  LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ Steve

PS: Never heard of the Musciano "Bullet", but with all that wing, I'd expect it to be a good one.

Hi, Steve - the Bullet is, as far as I know, the only high aspect ratio hollow log. While most of Walt's designs were in the 18 to 20" span range, the Bullet is just over 25".
I'm not sure if it was ever kitted or just a design - Larry Rice would know.
It's really a great flyer and as long as the weights are kept down, in the 4 to 5 ounce range, they fly quite well.

Here is a photo of the plans.
If anyone wants a copy, I believe Walt still sells them.

Walt designed several models with larger wing spans and carved fuselages, the ones that were kitted by Scientific were:
Bullet
Gulfhawk Jr. (37")
Cyclone (21")
Spirit of St. Lewis
Beachcraft 17
Dynamic (.15 to .29 version)
KingPin Senior
F-51 Mustang (23")
and a few more

Bob
I do not think I have ever seen a model design that had as wide a range of engine sizes as the Bullet. The drawing says .02 to .09 displacement.  First off a Cox .020 will not pull a 5 1/4 x 4 prop, more like 4 1/4 x 2 1/4 prop max.

I have several Cox .020 engines and they do have about the pulling power of an early .049 engine if propped right.  Come to think of it, I wonder, if the Bullet was built light if a Cox .010 TD might do the Job?  I have a Cox .010 TD on a 3 ounce total weight 15 inch WS scaled down Baby Barnstormer that flies great.

HI Bob,

You just are having too much fun with your unique models.  You gotta stop all the madness now!
LL~ LL~ LL~

Now, if I have this right, you doubled the size of the Bullet, so now it has a 50" wingspan?  Should look sweet in the air!

Title: Flies Beautifully!!!
Post by: Robert Zambelli on October 17, 2011, 04:32:49 PM
Well, I flew the Big Bullet yesterday and I'm happy to reports that it flies very well.
It needs a bit of trim to level the wings but that's it for trim.
Unfortunately, the tank is giving me fits. It will not run inverted.
At this point, it's a Hayes clunk tank but I will try a metal tank and see how it works, since the Brodak 15 run perfectly in the Scared Kitten with a metal tank.
I'll update as soon as I make a tank.
