Final Proto T-Rex

The final prototype T-Rex covered in premium film.  60" span , 675 sq in (CAD measured not squared off) semi elliptical wing.  10 1/4" nose moment, 17 1/2" tail moment, 10 3/4" wing root with 2" of sweep.  For .51 CU IN and up.

This proto has the new fully suspended bellcrank system that I designed.  I am very proud of it.  Simple but effective.

39 oz with all the airplane components on the scale and the entire box of parts, etc (including the box and bags that they come in).

Production units will be on Brodaks' next shipping container in the spring.



Outboard wing and flap, covered, complete including tip weight box.  6.7 oz.  Yowwwsah!!

It looks great, Brad! I saw the prototype fly at the Tulsa contest.

What will the all up weight be?

Well, it depends on what you put in it...

2 oz of tip weight
ST 60 = 13 oz with tube muffler (this is very conservative)
2 oz for a Sullivan tank
1.5  oz prop

That would equal 58.5 oz plus the glue to assemble.

The one you saw fly in Tulsa is closer to 68-69 oz and it flies like a lightweight, even in the heat and humidity.  It is by far the best flying plane I have ever had...  Anything under 70-72 oz should perform very well.  Above that, the corner may start to suffer in the summer.

At 60 oz  I have no idea what kind of corners this thing will pull.  I think I will put a coat of clear on mine... ;D

I was just hoping the bulk of the planes would stay under 64 oz weighed so you could fly them on .015's with the new rule if you want to.  i also wanted to make sure that a .51 would be adequate, which I think it will be.

Of course, it will accommodate a pipe tunnel.  It has all the room you need to make a pipe tunnel...  by my drawings even the Eather #8 will fit INSIDE the fuselage with just an opening in the back.

If you look, the holes are there for a pipe in the pass through area.

In fact, the T-Rex has more pipe tunnel room than an Impact (due to the fat airfoil of the Impact).

I think the T-Rex will be one of the most accommodating designs out there, now or in the future.  It will easily accommodate a piped two stroke, a rear exhaust muffled two stroke, side exhaust 2 stroke, 4 stroke, inverted mount, side mount, or even right side up mount if that is what you want.

It will also accommodate side exhaust engines with wrap around header mufflers in the inverted position.  Like if you want to run a ST 51/ST 60/ PA side exhaust with a wrap around header muffler to make the exhaust come out of the rear. 

It will require a long extension muffler for side exhaust, or you could go the other way and use a short extension muffler and keep the muffler inside the cowl.

Congrats Brad, it loks like a winner to me. I think the Chinese are getting better at producing for the market, thanks to those who are supplying them holding them to higher and higher standards.

Now, if you consider a take apart structure, for easy air transportation, the world may become your market place.

I would just be happy to get an ARF/ARC that is as good as the RC equivalents.

I bought a World Models Ultimate 40 Bipe for Doug and I to mess with (he is converting it to CL).

This ARF was insane good!!!  Insane!!!  Check it out.

The T-Rex 40 is already designed.  It is the same size as a T-Bird 2.

I have the plans, and I hope to produce the T-Rex 40 through Brodak to accompany the big T-Rex.

I also have a T-Rex Jr.  475 sq inches...  HE HE.  Cute little guy for Brodak 25/LA 25/Fox 35.
