I have been fortunate to find a couple of Veco 19 Engines that are brand new or practically brand new so I am going to build a Pretender and a Williamson Ringmaster. I think they will be a good fit for the engines. My sincere thanks to those who helped make these two future builds possible by responding to my requests on these two. I will not get started on these until after Christmas.
If anyone has built and flown these designs, I would love to hear how they flew.

Sounds like a great plan. Hoping for a build thread especially on the Williamson Ringmaster. It'll be nice to see a Ringmaster that isn't a ringmaster - uh, you know what I mean!

Mike I was into old time stunt for many years and I did build the Williamson Ringmaster. I did not care for the way it flew. It would not turn ever in each direction. The profile Ringmaster is a much better flyer. On paper it looks good and it fooled me into building it. Maybe the low wing is the problem. I have seen other using them for Old Time stunt and they thought the plane was OK but they were not very good flyers so there standard may have been low. It is a neat looking plane for sport flying. THE All American ,not the SR is a good flying .19 powered model and it lands much better than the SR.

Hi Eddy,
I knew about this problem so what I am going to do is either, raise the wing up in the fuselage by about 3/4" or....put dihedral in the wing. I am leaning toward raising the wing.

p.s. I think it only one ' the Gold ' as most of the rest were blown into the ground , with only 3 or 4 manadgeing take off & landing . A few loops did the trick , then . :-X
Tho plenty have been built & liked since , but ask someone who has one . Id put em in a Oriental winged twin engine Mosquito . VD~ This'd raise your heart rate .

I have a Veco plain-bearing 19 that appears to be in good condition. I have never run it but has good compression. Anyone who would like to have it is welcome to it! (Except Larry Wong who already has too many.) No charge. Send me a pm.

For the Veco 19BB search this forum, Brett Buck had some details about setups they used on Ringmaster. When setup right it is right there with the OS FP 20/25. It likes rpm, 9ish x 4 prop.

It's a bomb with a Veco 19bb - better have fast reflexes. It's a little less powerful than the 20FP, which is even more insane overkill. But, understanding that, yes, we (David, Ted, Jim, and myself, as an observer) have a lot of experience.

Just for information here is the engine review article in Scepterflight website on the VECO 19BB (http://sceptreflight.com/Model%20Engine%20Tests/Veco%2019BB%20CL.html), it is interesting in that it shows the power band ~10 -12K ish which is where the 4" pitch needs to be. Also interesting on that same site is the K&B 19, it has the same power band but is plain bearing and 0.2 oz lighter. I think the VECO 19BB came out after K&B bought the VECO engine line and put the same setup as their old plain bearing 19. There is also a review of the original VECO plain bearing 19 and it is not anywhere close to the BB version.
Seems that you could start with the 9x4 and adjust pitch down to get the lap time and add diameter to hold the engine in its power band.

Virtually all the designs of that era fly much better when they are going fast. The magazine article for the Williamson Ringmaster recommends flying it on .012"x65' lines - probably to help the pilot keep up! Sounds to me like the Veco 19BB is going to be spot-on! Set the engine at a comfortable/repeatable needle (probably burbling 2/4) with a 9/4 prop then adjust the line length to suit...
