Title: FCM - Fellowship of Christion Modelers
Post by: john e. holliday on July 01, 2021, 11:22:46 AM
Just read in the FCM News letter I receive that an ad was supposed to be in the July issue of Model Aviation.  According to the response that was given the ad was promoting Christianity.  Is the powers that are in control going to tell us we can't tell about our religion?  The magazine is always saying they don't make much money and there are several reason I could say why but that would take too much time.  Now I know why I take the on line issue of Model Aviation as I can skip over the stuff that don't interest me.  All the paper versions I had are now in the recycle plant.  Oh yes I try to donate to FCM when I can which means skipping a milk shake or banana split. Administrator if you deem this unacceptable you have my permission to delete it or move it. H^^

I saw that as well. Bunch of "woke" panty-waist don't-want-to-offend-anyone-so-end-up-offending-everyone do-nothing bureaucrats who at this point have next to no connection to modelers whatsoever. The only reason I would give that bunch any kind of funding is if I want to fly in a contest, which isn't very often.

FCM is a fantastic organization and they have my utmost respect. The AMA...not so much, just slightly above Congress, which is slightly above Hades, but not as honorable.

Actual text of the email.

Quote
Chaplin's Corner.

Dear FCM members,

I have received several emails and calls inquiring as to why Chaplain’s Corner did not appear in the July issue of Model Aviation.

Following is a copy of what I received when I made inquiry as to why our purchased ad did not appear. I was not previously informed about this decision.

"Our Executive Council voted not to allow religious advertising in the magazine. This is our statement regarding this decision: Advertisements that promote or oppose any religion, religious practice, or belief will not be accepted."
"I was told by our Executive Director that Allen Goff, who submits the ad, was advised of this decision and that we could not accept this ad going forward. Therefore, we cannot accept the ad for the July issue."

I am disappointed and to be honest, angry. I have to remind myself that we wrestle not against flesh and blood…. Grace to them.
So we will not be advertising in MA .

As always, thank you for your encouragement as we work together to further the Kingdom

Blessings
Allen

I'm sorry, I guess I am stupid. I don't quite understand the logic or argument here.

This was a paid advertisement, yes? Did it vilify denigrate or abuse anybody? Is it inciting religious violence against another branch of religion? Does it suggest they are right and anybody else is wrong?

I think not. So, if that logic applies if they decide IC is old school and electric is the only way to go then IC and diesel engine advertisements are out?

Completely ridiculous.

Craig
Ps I think I need to go off and live on an island where I can only offend myself.

Did someone get a list of who voted for and against this EC action?

The AMA, in my opinion, is misguided and has done irreparable harm to our hobby.

The problem is that we (AMA members, not you and me specifically) electing the people who are determined to screw the pooch. On the other hand, this will make it really easy to write the campaign statements of their opponents. I am nearly certain that "woke" or "identity" politics *would not be supported by the majority of AMA members*. These people have proven themselves to be hateful and intolerant, not to mention UnAmerican.

Guess I'm seeing this from a different perspective.

Whether the reason for the EC's decision was thoughtful consideration, malice, weak knees or wokenes, I agree with it.
AMA being a non-profit surley has government tentacles attached to it.  If the EC made the choice to allow FCM's paid advertisement, some faceless, unaccountable bureaucrats would certainly could FORCE AMA to accept other like advertisements.

Not only would we have the Chaplin's corner we may also have the Rabbi's corner, Imam's corner, agnostic's corner, atheiest's corner, satans corner, jim jones corner and so on.

Christian and far to infrequent FCM supporter.

Government tentacles or not David the point is it is a paid advertisement. It is not a sanctioned piece by the magazine.

If the Rabbi or Iman or whoever want to put up the money for their own advertisement, so be it,  let them.

And in any case, the "government" is not supposed to have "tentacles" into any legal private activity,  and religion least of all. "Freedom of Religion" is not the same as "freedom from religion" and the government is explicitly prohibited from interfering with the practice of religion by the constitution.

And in any case, the AMA, as incorporated non-profit organization is in the same boat as many religious and service organizations. This is not the "government" at work, this is lilly-livered AMA EC (or lawyers) afraid of "controversy", in this case over something that was the basic moral foundation of the entire country - Judeo-Christian morality.

BTW, I *guarantee* that they would NOT reject a similar ad from an Imam, because the same lilly-liveredness would cause them to assume they might wind up in court - or worse.

Alternately, they have somehow gotten it into their heads that they are representatives of the "government" and therefore cannot "establish" a religious position. This is even more delusional, but consistent with similar delusional positions they have recently adopted.

I am not at all religious and have no dog in this fight, but I find this sort of lunacy offensive as an American.

Bang on Brett, this has lawyers written all over it. I don't consider myself religious  and even I don't get it, schools not allowed to do Christmas shows no ads in magazines, all beacause they are scared someone will get offended, freakin ridiculous.

This is a simple business decision.

AMA weighed the merits of pleasing the Christians vs the downside of annoying the atheists.

AMA decided that atheist modelers outnumber Christians.

When atheists lose, they make a lot of trouble.  When Christians win, there isn't all that much upside.

Me, I would have gone with the Christians.  We'll see how this shakes out for AMA.

Did not take that long for the AMA to get "WOKE" now did it?

The thing I keep reminding myself of is that God in His wisdom can, and likely will, use this as a testimony of His love through the incident.  I believe He has the power to win folks over through controversy that brings attention to His presence and perfect love.

Can any of you identify a decision that the AMA has made in the last, say, 15 or 20 years that was a good one?  The only reason they are still in business is their monopoly on insurance.  Because of that, they will always have a core membership even though it is compulsive and most members intensely dislike the organization.

Frankly, the AMA  has not lived up to its charter for many years and if we had an IRS that was actually doing its job they would be hauling them in for auditing and questioning the basis of their non-profit status.  The idea that they provide an educational benefit to the country is laughable.  For example - it was just recently that they discovered that "building" was a key component of the hobby!

The AMA serves itself.  It has not acted in the interest of the modeling community for many years.  And it is pretty apparent by their actions with the FAA that they want to get on the government teet.  You know, the "ACORN" of model aviation.  Oh joy.  Once they do that, all pretenses can be dropped and they can tell us all to go pound sand.  So much for a representative organization working in the interests of its members....

This is a far different organization than the one I joined in 1961.

AMA will need to be changed to WMA (Woke). How do we put people we want in power in the AMA leadership? I tried for two years to find out political affiliation of these "officials". The AMA has presided over the demise of control line. We should organize and find ways to cause the demise of this regime in power there and work on replacing them with modelers having our interest in mind.
