Super Tigre info needed
« on: August 16, 2017, 01:15:52 AM »
Guys, looking to source a couple ST stunt .35's

There seems to be some confusion out there as to which is is a stunt version and which is a combat version. I am assuming the C21/35 is the stunt and the G21/35 is the combat version. Is this correct?

I know the baffle is a dead giveaway for the stunt, but it's hard to tell from pictures. So are all C21/35's stunt and all G21's combat? I see a lot of engines up for sale claiming stunt with a G on the case and vice versa for the C's

Any insight would be most appreciated.

Ron

Not quite so.

The Super Tigre C35 is a plain bearing design. They came with stunt timing and combat timing. There were also Perry Directional Ported (PDP) versions. The G21/35 is a ball bearing design. They also came in different states of tune as well as being set up for suction or pressure, front intake, rear intake, etc.

The plain bearing model came in Combat and Stunt models. The combat had the same porting as the G21, the stunt model used a baffle piston and standard cyllinder porting.

The difference between the  plain bearing combat vs  Stunt version, was the  Piston. sleeve  and  head, The piston, of course has a baffle on it and the head is a different shape with a baffle clearance slot milled into it   I have seen PDP  combat versions, but  I personally  never saw a  PDP stunt version

Brian Gardner did some ABC ' Stunt ' 35 Super Tigre piston liners .

They go in the 21/35 Ball Bearing too . . . just have to take a disc grinder to the head for the baffle slot .  S?P
Tho I think he had heads done too .

I tried a 35C ( Combat ) and a 21/35 in the olde Phantom 52 span Magnum 25 / OS 25 sucker . FSR BB 25 did maybe 10 minutes ,
21/35 did 7 minutes odd , and 35 C , still tight in the shaft , did around 5 min - on the same tank full . Thats the ' flat top ' 35 C .

The 21/35s came with a Big & a Little  ( 9 mm & 3.2 mm Venturie ) The 21/35 unmuffled on a 9 x 6 theee blade sounded nice &
meanaceing unmuffled - in a damp steady 2 stroke .

The BIG Problem  >:( if it is one , is the ' Flat top ' piston set up has marginal ' sub piston induction ' right across under the piston
at T.D.C. ,
said to contaminate the case charge Muffled , & reduce Output discernably .

So the A B C set up is the easy answer . Tho I think most C-35-S were eaerly ' Hard Liner ' and last forever . Before the Liners were less hardened for easier Break In . A bit like the Rings in all but Early Chinese STs were less hardened - were told - for easier / quicker Break In .

Reports from 21/35 Users of the Stunt A.B.C. set up appear favourable . But Weight'd be similar to the 21/46 . So where does that leave you.
