6/16/2011 Update of Specs on Buccaneer 746-P
« on: June 16, 2011, 10:25:45 AM »
I wanted to give you an update on some of the specs and enhancements that will be made to the 746-P when it is released.

FUSELAGE - The fuselage will be a built up fuselage to make it light and sheeted on both sides.  The core will be 3/8 with 1/16 sheeting on both sides

WING - The wing will be a built up balsa rib wing and the span is 59" with a wing area of 650 sq inches.

TAIL - The total tail area will be increased to 29% of the total wing area including the flaps. If my math is correct that will give you 188.5 sq inches of tail area. 55% of that will be the stab and 45% with be the elevators. The stab will be 3/8" thick and the elevator will be 1/4" thick.

ENGINE - the ST .51 and the Evolution .60 are preferred but of course you may use any engine you want that will pull the plane. We suggest if you do use the Evolution 60 or any other .60 size engine that you may want to shorten the nose by 3/8 to 1/2 inch.

I hope this will give you a clearer picture of what changes the model with have and we feel these are all good changes for you.

I have posted some pictures of two beautiful 746-Ps that Andy Stokey built to these specs from scratch.

The kit will be all laser cut from contest balsa.

Thank you and please let me know if you want to be added to the list for one of these kits. I will get pricing to you as soon as I possibly can.

Thank you

Mike

Could also be a really good way for guys who want to try 4 strokes to get in, in a somewhat more accessible way. Horizon has really good prices on their Saito 56-more than enough power for this ship.

What size electric would you use on this plane in say, an Axi or equivalent?

A Scorpion, Axi, Hacker, or an Orbit would all work.  A set up like mine would be:

Scorpion 3026-710
Phoenix ICE Lite 50 ESC
Will Hubin FM-9 timer
13x4.5P APC electric prop
Thunder Power 5S 2700mah battery

See Getting All Amped Up forum for more details.  Norm Whittle has a very similar set up on his Sultan-e that would work very well too.
