Fall Follies
« on: August 27, 2020, 08:51:10 PM »
I just noticed on Flying Lines that Fall Follies is cancelled.  Sorry to see that, as it would have been the only fairly local PA contest for PNW this season.

I may revert back to 8th grade & fly Cox .049 planes in my back yard.

Sad to see another contest cancelled.  But, now it has been mentioned, I remember fly my American Boy with OK Cub .049A many times in back yard.  Did my first loop with one before I knew or thought I knew what I was doing.  Also it was on 15 foot dacron lines. D>K

Received notification from Sig that their event is cancelled, too. Didn't see in the topics, so thought I'd tag it along here.

EDIT: A link.

We really should try the video contest thing again.

You can fly a Sig Skyray (049 version) in a typical neighborhood cul-de-sac with shortened lines, if everyone moves their cars out of the way.

Then you fall down and possibly lose your lunch (followed by breakfast).  At least, that's how it worked for me when I was 16.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

PROBABLY no reason not to go rogue and have an informal fun-fly. Would W.O.L.F. pitch a fit? I doubt it, but it might be nice to ask.  y1 Steve

WOLF may be planning a fun fly already.  Watch for events on Flying Lines.

Great to see how the politicians are ruining this great country of ours.  The local race track has not received any notices of virus out breaks.   Of course those of us that are sick or don't feel ell stay home.   A fun fly out in the open with caution is doable.   D>K

Too bad all of the Oregon CL events are being cancelled.

The Free Flight contests in Corvallis and the R/C soaring contests by the PASS club (Portland) are still on.

Stunt events at 2020 NATS managed to be held without any apparent problems.  So, it can be done.

Our club members  get together to fly every weekend, with appropriate safety precautions.

We are told that interactions out-of-doors pose minimal risk,

I went to the Free Flight contest in Tangent the week of Aug. 20/21/22. Some folks were wearing masks some of the time. I don't think anybody was wearing their mask all of the time. No reports of impending doom. SAM8 had a FF contest earlier, and apparently nobody died.  VD~ Steve

Right, Steve.  A free flight field, or a C/L circle seems as safe as standing in my front yard, watering the flowers and exotic plants. (Yes, I'm allowed to do that, but not allowed to do any pruning).

I doubt it would make much difference if catching COVID-19 meant instant death. People generally do and believe what they want.

And no, I don't see much problem with having a fun fly.

Maybe not "instant", but probably quickly enough for us "soon-to-be-87" folks.
