Built by a 14 year old boy (me) that idolized GMA, Aerogloss over silkspan with talc/dope filler, hand rubbed for days, never heard of 2000 grit paper, Froom spinner, Fox .35, way wrong markings even for a pseudo military model and a custom fitted canopy by your's truely when all efforts to make the glued up one proved disasters. Weight....shrugs shoulders
This is my scratch built GB Nobler I call my cheeter Nobler because is uses a foam wing sheeteed and capped. I wanted to recapture the Nobler I built when I was 14 but failed miserably.

Cheeter, much more proper markings but I am way diappointed with it as a whole. Awaiting canopy from Bill Sawyer, otherwise ready to fly. BTW, That's the SAME spinner on both models!

Nose art if I ever find someone with a color printer that will print on my decal paper, even with the HP inkjet we tried Monday the ink beaded up and never dried.
To all you Ultracoat fans out there I have but one comment...PPPPHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOEYYY!!!! I hate the stuff. Low temp adhesive and high temp shrinking is exactly the backwards way to do it, I had to patch the tail where I added tail weight (another grumble) and you can't shrink the stuff without loosening the adhesive.!!!
The Rustroleum on the gear and cowl that matched the UC so well before I covered the model didn't after I covered it, seems the color got lighter after it was heated.
You can't walk past it without leaving finger prints, I even tried waxing it but that didn't help either.
It weights 39oz, which ain't bad, but 1 1/2 oz are in the tail to make it balance. I notoriously build nose heavy models, it's the FFer in me, but 1 1/2 oz!!!! Man, that's too much.
This is the ugliest model I've built in years, my 1964 model looked better then this!! But I'll fly it anyway, should look OK at say,,,,, 65'?

Hey I will take it off your hands in a second !!!!
Looks great Randy!!
-
THanks Paul, it does look pretty good in the pix, but in person its just awful.
-
You may be a little over-critical over your own plane, but it looks fine to me. When you get it slobbered up with castor and give it a wipe down, fingerprints will disappear. Your covering job looks nice in the pics though!
-
Randy,
I understand. You could really screw up the canopy fitting. That would make it more realistic. I know guys that can do a shrink wrap job and make it look like paint. I'm not one of them.
-
Randy
Thats one of the best Noblers I have ever seen. Great building there. R%%%%

"You could really screw up the canopy fitting."
And the way I've been going I probably will!!!! That's why I had Bill make me 2, I can screw up twice as bad and still have an ugly airplane!
Bryan,
I appreciate your kind words, but in person it really looks bad, lenses and flash and all that really bring out the gloss, but it does look rough first hand.

OK, ok, ok . . . it looks like crap. CAN I HAVE IT? #^

Well, to tell you the truth, I'm really thinking of flying it this summer then putting a "proper" finish on it next winter.

Everybody hold your breath. The canopies are on the way. There is one extra you can use to practice trimming on. The first one was no good but the shape is OK.
-
Randy, I take it you hav never seen an ARF Nobler in person. Even in pictures yours looks muchop better. Don't forget the pilot before you put the canopy on. Also at 39 ounces it is too light as you will find out. LL~ LL~ I yet to have any Nobler come out under 40+ ounces. Besides the pudding is in the flying. If it flies like it's supposed to, why worry about the finish. Have fun, DOC Holliday

Nasty beautiful looking plane...............doesn't WD40 have wax init? LL~

Randy:
try cleaning it with windex - get any existing polish off it. That should help with the finger printing. Then try Monocote cleaner/polish. it seems to work pretty well.
39 oz Nobler is still competitive at any contest in the world - at least any where the judges are watching Precision Aerobatics (shapes sizes intersections & bottoms) and not zoom-zoom stunt (big/fast/bottoms).
enjoy!

Thanks all for your nice comments. I'm just feeling sorry for myself I guess. If I hadn't had so much trouble with the latest Monokote I think I'd have been much more pleased with it, I'm pretty good with M'kote, I've been "hired" to do that on occasion. The U'coat just plain sucks in my opinion, but it does shrink like M'kote used to, its a catch 22. It is light and straight, but I missed the boat trying to speed it up using iron ons, I should have just finished it like I do all my other stunters.
Sorry Doc, NO PILOT FIGURE!!! I just hate pilot figures, I guess that's a Free Flighters thing too.
Dennis, Windex is my cleaner of choice and it make M'kote look like new, but the U'coat is porus and it seems to soak up my finger oils like finger print dusting powder.
Bill, really looking forward to the canopie, I want to fly this monster so I can enjoy that part of it. Maybe after I fly it I'll fell a little differently about the whole thing.
Now, back to the Gladiator!!

Someone needs to invent a monokote that doesn't look like monokote..

I fail to understand just how one can make a decent landing with an original Nobler. The L.G. is way too far forward.
Floyd

Its not really Floyd, the leg fairings make it look that way, but the gear is in very good position.

Mr. Postmnan just dropped them off, I'm off to the shop to fit one up, maybe even fly it tomorrow! Thanks Bill

What about the plane looks so bad?? ??? ???I wish my work looked this good.

Jim, In general it doesn't look all that bad but I am very hard on myself and this model has allot more bad spots then I'm willing to accept. To the casual observer, it probably looks good, but if I were judging the model for appearance, it would get 15-17, my painted models score higher then that.

I do good to get 12 points for my painted planes. Still learning tho. DOC Holliday
